I have a 1963 deluxe with both Sigla and Sekurit glass. Is this due to 63 being a change over year and so factory used whatever glass was left on the bus or should they all be labeled alike?
Wondering if I should match them before finalizing the restoration. Feedback? |

A '63 Deluxe would be all glass with VW/Sigla stamps.
The only exception would possibly be the corner window glass.
My '63 15-Window has Sekurit corner windows and I don't believe they have ever been out of the Bus, judging by the seals.
I have seen a couple other '63 Deluxes like that too.
It is very common for the front door glass to be changed out, judging by how many Deluxes I have seen with non-Sigla glass. _________________ How to Post Photos

Just finished cleaning all the glass and found even more mix match.
The skylights are 4 of each and have a slightly different tint as you can see from the photo. The darker green is the Sekurit, which I kinda like better.
Anyone know someone who is sitting on some glass to trade? I need to trade a corner, skylights, two popouts and a stationary.

Whilst on the subject of glass, much of my sep 61 15 window has Sigla glass, but there's other stuff as well. The Sigla is the original isn't it?
Am I also right in thinking that Sigla cab door glass is laminated as opposed to toughened and needs the special frame at the bottom to mount the catch to. If that is the case, all that has gone in mine. |

The bus was built April 1963. Sigla/Sekurit?
All Sigla glass marked AS-1. All Sekurit AS-2
Would anyone be offended if I left the mix match glass or better to try to match it all, one way or the other? |

It is not really about being offended. It is just that the bus does look better if the glass is all correct, and with the logos properly installed (generally at the top towards the back of the bus).
It can be tricky to get a complete set of matching logoed sigla glass, especially in the cab doors, so people understand if there are some sekurit pieces. Doing all sekurit in a sigla bus is silly.
Most people don't actually notice glass logoes anyway.
I kinda like the bubbles in old sigla glass

I must admit I'm also a fan of some of the prettier de lamination that you get with the Sigla glass. Years ago an acquaintance of mine imported a 15 window from the US to the UK that bus had some stunning flower like patterns over some of it's glass. Alas I have no pictures. |

My passenger side front glass is a big VW logo Sigla with some delamination like that. The driver's side has a "Shat-R-Proof" replacement. Anybody ever seen this brand? _________________ Copyright CJ Industries, Inc.

Is it delivered to the USA?
My July 8th Bus is all VW/Sigla, except for the corner windows are Sekurit.
I have looked at a lot of other late 63 Deluxes and they are all VW/Sigla too. Most have VW/Sigla corner glass too. _________________ How to Post Photos

My April 16 Panel bus has Sekurit D-02-A-S2 glass on the wing, slider and fixed window glass on both sides. The rear hatch glass is Durvit-A -D-19. Iam not sure but I belive these to be OG to the bus. Front glass have both been replaced. |

My bus is April 1963. I am going to trade Douglas my Sigla for his Sekurit just so I have a matching set.
Some purist might cringe, but heck, from the sounds of it, the glass changed within a couple of months of my car so not too out of the ordinary. |

Just for reference, panels and other commercial Buses have Sekurit. _________________ How to Post Photos

Philadelphia delivery, we chatted about this a couple years ago, I could not find that thread. We have almost identical busses and I recall there being 2 more of the same build on the same week. I also noticed my pic links from the 15 window count thread are gone, I 'll be adding pics in the Samba gallery today and will include some of the windows in question. _________________ 63 15 window deluxe Turkis walk through 1500

Ok. Yes, there are a bunch of July 5th Buses on the site too, most are listed in the 59-63 15-Window thread. _________________ How to Post Photos

posted more in the gallery titled "july 4 1963 15 window glass durvit"

I'll check the camera settings before shooting next time and get some higher res pics. Other than the front they all look og but I don't know crap. There is quite a bit of "junk" around them in places, seems to be decades old crud and mostly I'm guessing from the super heavy buffing it recieved from the po. A little toothbrush or fingernail and it comes right off. The rubber itself is massively degraded, one of the first things I got was a full WW kit... _________________ 63 15 window deluxe Turkis walk through 1500
