I've been reading posts here for the last month and you seem to know your stuff. I was wondering what your background was and if you'd tell me a little about your ride/s.
It's always cool to meet someone who knows their stuff!! |

I don't mean anything by the first post. I am trying to learn who is who here- as in the regulars. I've already met a couple guys here who have helped me out tremendously both parts wise and tech wise. It is not often you see this kind of camaraderie. It's nice when you can count on your fellow man (and/or woman) to help you out. |

What is your acid/baking soda formula for removing rust? What kind of acid?
By the way, nice bus. |

The acid eats the rust and the metal below and the baking soda neutralizes the acid so it stops eating the metal. You let it eat the rust, neutralize it, then scrub away the loose metal with a wire brush and wash it away.
Hydrochloric acid (HCl) can be purchased at Home Depot in the gardening/pool section. It's about $3 a gallon and goes a very long way. You dillute it with water and use that solution. It will probably be labeled muratic acid and come in a box with two 1 gallon jugs.
What do you want to clean? |

I have rusty spots in various areas all over my bus I'd like to clean.
I'm guessing I shouldn't use it on painted surfaces I care about? What could I use there?
What did you do to the rust spots in between the acid and putting that black stuff down?
What was that black stuff you used as an undercoating and for battery trays? |

Use the acid for serious cleaning. I think a rust converter product would be better for what you want to clean.
Some undercoat in a spary can from the local auto parts store. |
