|
|
I have been following my friend scottvw’s post about his 66 deluxe and have enjoyed it.
I like the timeline feel so I thought I would start one myself about my 67 Westy.
So here it is.
A bit of history.
I moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 2002 and quickly found out that most of the bus people here camp in their busses.
I met a local bus guy Mike K. and he showed me pictures of him and his friends camping all over Colorado and it looked like great fun.
I had a 56 panel at the time so off I went to go camping.
I went camping in it once and quickly learned that I needed a proper camping bus.
Now I had to find a Westy.
Around 2004 I see an ad on Craig’s List for a 67 Westy right in Colorado Springs.
I contacted the seller and a deal was made.
Now I could do some proper camping!
Here are some pictures of some of the camping I have done in the last 8 years.
Camping in the 56 was very cold.
My first trip in the Westy. 2004
Some more misc. pics from over the years.

Fast forward to 2012.
My wife and I get an opportunity to live and work in Germany so we jump on it.
What would be better than to ship the Westy over and campl all over Europe?
Not much.
The plan is set. Ship it.
When I purchased the Westy in 2004 it had its share of bumps and bruises and the crunched nose had always bugged me.
As luck would have it my buddy Mike K. had just started his shop Bulli Klinik in Colorado Springs and had an open spot in the shop so I could get some things fixed up before it needed to ship.
I decided to have the nose and front floor done by Mike.
Here are some pics.
Nose removed.
Floor removed.
Floor installed.
I did not want a replacement nose so Mike metal worked the OG nose.
He did an amazing job!
Nose painted.
Some other things he fixed.

Wow! Mike K definitely has talent! Looks great.
BTW, who is the blur in the campsite/bonfire photo? A ghost....

Hi Brian, I blurred my wife.
I am in Germany now.
The Westy cleared customs today and it should be delivered Monday.
Here is what it looked like the day it shipped.
Now the next challenge is to get it to pass TUV here.
I shipped all new stock suspension just in case I cannot get it to pass lowered. |

Hey Wayne,
Glad to see you have a thread on your bus. Here are a few pics I have of your bus over the years. Also, the ones when you helped me with my suspension. BTW, I got your skype message and I sent you one via skype.

Check out the Bulli Klinik blog at:
http://www.bulliklinik.com/2012/09/waynes-67-westy-part-2-nose.html
Mike shows how he did the nose step by step.
He cut and welded at the hump.
I was not sure it would work myself but you cannot tell it was ever cut.
It is incredible how nice it came out. |

Cool! I spent two years chasing a Fraulein from Bad Neuheim, just outside of Frankfurt. Well actually she lived there part time and the rest in Neubiberg near Munchen. _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

I like it better when it was stock. Let alone camping in Colorado!
That metal work was top notch! Nice westy. Best of luck in germany, I would jump on an opportunity like that as well. _________________ Instagram- @vwwanderers

I know, I have been a low bus guy for a long time and I do not think that I would do that again to a bus like that now. |

I read you are in Germany. Cool. I'm up over here at Geilenkirchen, just north of Aachen. I brought my bus over here, a couple of years ago, as well. I drive all around the Benelux region. Have a great ride with it. |
