I am posting this opportunity in the HBB Off Road forum instead of the “Events” forum because fellow Off Roaders may never catch it or know it is happening otherwise. I am not associated with the event, but find it waaay cool and thought you may also. Wife and I have been kicking it around but have not made a definite commitment for us.

Safe, legal, new places to ride “off road” are a hard find for east coast VW people. For me, any new cool place is exciting.

While it is not “new”, I re-discovered the Outer Bank Islands of NC a few years back. The wife and I have been going East for a yearly vacation and some cruising on the beach each year for the last 5 years. This year, we attended the Manx on the Banx event (MOTB) put on by the Manx Dune Buggy Club. It was a week long event with some cruising on the edge of the water along the shores of the barrier islands. This event is based for Fiber Glass Based Buggies only and you have to be a member of the Manx Club to attend. (Or as a close friend says, Bass Boat on wheels).

Even though I have driven all the coast line available in my Jeeps, it was soo much more fun to do it in a large group, (44 buggy’s on the beach in mid October).

Now to the purpose of this thread. There is an event coming up on Saint Paddy’s Day week/weekend in March 2013 that IS OPEN TO ALL VW BASED VEHICLES. Rails, Bajas, Buses, Things and fiber glass buggys. Wouldn’t it be fun to run with a bunch of fellow VDubbers up the coast line? Trade off roading stories at night, see other peoples off road rigs and in general run around as a VW enthusiast group.

Here is the thread link:

Now for some critical information. This IS NOT a “who can jump the highest, biggest doughnuts or longest sand drag event”. In the true nature of a off-roader, tread lightly, only leave your tracks, only take pictures. It is a respectful event that requires all rigs to be street legal with insurance. The beaches in NC are regulated like a normal highway, are patrolled and normal highway laws are applied. Environmentalists watch everyday to point out people tearing up the beaches so they can get everything shut down and no driving on the beach. Please do not give them any ammunition.

Any one else interested? I may have to buckle down and finish my RGB Oval Baja to make this event.
