josephph928- "...and you need circuit breakers in the system..."
This reply is not neccesarily meant for Joseph (thank you for the replies and input regaredless) but what is a recommended circuit breaker to add into a similar system (pre-packaged solar kit).
I am an absolute novice here and am trying to put a wealth of information into perspective.
singler3360-"I Google'd the vendor and didn't like what I saw in the top 3 or 4 search results..."
I performed the same search and turned up no alarming results, is there one specifically that caught your attention? The top few results were home page listings or amazon and ebay listings. |

Rule of thumb - charge current (amps) should be at least 10% of the rated capacity of the battery. _________________ Mark S.,

A 30 amp charge controller is over kill for a 5.5 amp panel. And the system is about $100 over priced . The answer is yes, I use two 15 amp circuit breakers . You have a fair amount of power here and lot's of money in the system not to mention the VW electrical system! You could just use fuses but the breakers are much more heavy duty . And No. AZ. just lowered the price of the 140 watt system to $463.66 great deal! _________________ 1987 syncro westy tin top sun roof , GW2.3, rear locker, decoupler, Gary Lee tire rack & winch mount, lift, south african grill, big brakes , rhein alloy ,15 BFG AT, Fiamma 10 foot awning ,140 watt rear 85 watt front solar , mppt, truckfridge, automatic fire extinguishing system, tencent oil cooler, And a RMW SS exhaust! - 1971 bug convertible 1776 engine- 2010 Subaru turbo - 1993 Toyota 4x4 truck - 1999 Harley 95 CI, big bore, Andrews cams . Just Google Northern Arizona wind & sun 928-526-8017 m-f . I'm not affiliated with them they just happen to be in my home town. But great people to deal with. Go to the RV part. RV solar panels have a junction box on the back of the panel much better to work with. No tax on this in AZ. and only $463.66! _________________ 1987 syncro westy tin top sun roof , GW2.3, rear locker, decoupler, Gary Lee tire rack & winch mount, lift, south african grill, big brakes , rhein alloy ,15 BFG AT, Fiamma 10 foot awning ,140 watt rear 85 watt front solar , mppt, truckfridge, automatic fire extinguishing system, tencent oil cooler, And a RMW SS exhaust! - 1971 bug convertible 1776 engine- 2010 Subaru turbo - 1993 Toyota 4x4 truck - 1999 Harley 95 CI, big bore, Andrews cams . Search results today aren't coming up with the same concentration of questionable reviews. Not sure what's happening, but I'll delete my comment. |

I haven't dealt with Arizona Wind and Sun in several years, but agree that their staff was very helpful when I had questions.
They also have a lot useful information on their site, including calculators to help you size your system to fit your needs.
I installed a 4kW system at my residence (11 years now), and a 480W system for my v-nose trailer. Planning on a single 120W panel and a 20A charge controller (in case I add an additional panel) for my 'new' Westy. This will be in addition to the existing auxiliary battery/charging system that came from the factory. _________________ Mark S.,

This is the company that I got my solar gear from.
http://www.eco-distributing.com/
Just give them a call and let them know what your needs would be and they can direct you in the right direction.
Looking at prices the panels sure have dropped in price, you can get a larger panel with more wattage now than
you could two short years ago.
Also it is easier to talk to the experts about what you want, than it would be to fire off some quetions here.
Not saying you won't get good info here, but it easier to call someone that makes it their business. _________________ '15 Audi A3 Quattro
