|
|
This is a $100 car I bought for my son at a Farmington show. Shortly realizing it was more work then we wanted for his car. I decided to build me a toy.
As it was when we bought it on Sunday
What we got done 2 days after buying it
When we decided to chop it
4'' chop
Extra cab window
Bus rear roof
More pics coming soon |

This is my project, so getting time to work on it doesnt come often. I have 9 vw's in my driveway right now and I own one of them. Customers come first. Looks like my son is going to end up with a slammed VW Thing as his first car. |

The rear roof section is a split bus roof. I had to take 10 1/4'' out of the center of the bus roof. The body line in the roof of a bug is not in the roof of a bus, so I have started dollying the body line into the bus roof. I am going to fade the body line out over top the quarter windows. The drip rail is considerably different as well. These too will be dollied into shape. The rear window will be a bus rear hatch cut down to size. The bed will be a model A style truck bed. Engine and trans will be in the truck bed. I have yet to decide on building a full tube chassis or going back to a bug chassis. It really comes down to a time thing. I want to build a tube chassis, the future wife says she wants me to have it done for our wedding in Oct 2013. BTW all VW theme wedding. |

Cool project! I'm in NC too, and I was also at the farmington show. Some great racing. I picked up a few things for my 73. Are you going to the show at the fairgrounds in Febuary? _________________ Current: '73 standard (yellow) '76 standard (rust/gold )

Well, it looks like you've been putting the truck on the back burner. Did the future wife put the wedding on the back burner too? I was expecting this to be a sort of centerpiece to it!

You still have time to go mid-engine with it. Rear tires and the wheels are perfect. |

Please, please, please go with a type 3 cooling setup on this so you can run a real pickup bed in it. I hate those pickup conversions with a wimply little storage space that is mostly taken up by a spun aluminum gas tank, and the fan shroud sticking through the bed. |

Would be very cool if that rear hatch opened up to the inside of the bug! _________________ scrapyards are for quitters
