Maybe my favorite thread yet. Not my choice in colors but geez it looks amazing. The paint laid down very nicely. Interior sexy too. I missed the dash cluster earlier..there's a lot of work hiding behind those few pics.
Where is the cluster from? Ford? Edit: never mind .. Porsche 996!
The fasteners used on the panels claim to be push on, but the screw looks threaded. Thoughts on them in terms of strength installed?
You need to record a video with some audio so we can hear it.
Cheers,
Dennis. |
Thanks. Yes I need a GoPro for some good vids. There is much more to be revealed on the interior. The fasteners you just push them in then turn to seat them better. Strength is excellent.

i think he wanted to go OEM on the color. my mom's 78 bus was this same colorway... orange creamsicle ftw. |
Yup. Gotta love the creamsicle.

Thanks. I do have to say that I had a rough time getting this to stick. It would fall off days later. Loctite professional spray adhesive woked pretty good, but the best I found was 3M 1099. http://www.skygeek.com/3m-021200-19811-scotch-weld...Qgod0F4AAA
Believe me I tried evrything I could find and nothing would work. Stuck to the panel but would not stick to the fabric. I finally called 3M and talked to them. Still not perfect but the best I could find. Pricey too. But I am very happy with the look. |

Random noise:
1. Any time i'm feeling cocky about my automotive exploits, a quick look at this thread will address the situation.
2. If Fred Astaire had a mechanical counterpart it might be you.
3. Seriously, not often one sees this skill set all rolled up into one dude.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Breadbox at the Seattle Marymoor GTG and the build is in fact awesome. The entire build looks like it could be OE, super high-quality stuff.
I also made sure that the owner got introduced to Daryl for any pending transmission bombs with all that power. _________________ Marius Strom Otto: 1988 Vanagon Syncro Westy Camper

Thanks guys. Now I have a face with a name. Met a lot of people but no one told me their screen names. Was actually looking for Daryl for my friends MKII GTI trans. I have decided to replace the transaxel with an automatic from a different brand of vehicle. It would be too expensive to fix up the stock trans and just have it break. Stay tuned for that conversion. I will let you know what transaxel I'm using once I get everything sorted out. BTW, I already have the new trans. You are just going to have to wait. |

Hope it's a GM trans. Only ones to get the automatics right. _________________ -cliff

So I saw the cup holder thread and decided I had to have one. Went to the wreckers but they had no CRV's or Odyssey's. Started looking around in other vehicles and spotted one in a '03 Kia Sedona. $6.99 took it home.
At first I wasn't too happy that the mounting brackets were on an angle until I test fit it in the van and realized that if it hadn't been on an angle it would not clear the recaro seat bolsters. Two 3/4" spacers beveled at 45 degrees on the top two screw holes worked perfect. Also notice it has two different recesses for different size cups.

Thanks guys. The transmission swap will probably happen late next month. Have almost everything needed to make the swap. I am really tired of the screaming engine. Gotta love those 4:57 gears. Should cut the rpms in half.

That cupholder console thing was pretty handy last weekend.
I had no idea it was out of some Korean econobox. _________________ BUS FOR SALE

So this happened.
My son said the steering feels weird. We were just getting ready to leave, so I decided to look under the van while he turned the steering wheel. WOW!!!
What a shock. We probably would have lost all steering and that would have been the end of us and the breadbox. One year old and 3000 miles and it looks like 30 years and 200,000 miles. Ordered a new one from a different supplier and it has all the same markings as the old one. Guess I'll be checking it often. Don't want a repeat.
The new one. Same as the old one.
