While camping in Maine during the winter months, it has made it much easier for me and my Syncro Westy to stay put and run multiple tanks.
I have lights, grill, stove, on demand hot water system...and in the summer a larger fridge all connected.
The Westy tank would be empty in no time if it was all I had.
The site I stay at is a private residence and I dropped two 100lbs tanks there so I didn't have to keep running to town to fill up. |

Once in a while, most useful when combined with a Zodi hot shower or similar during extended camping trips.

I added the deluxe version, to run grill, etc... when I installed the Propex back last spring, so not very long. Not knowing the Propex consumption firsthand, it's been just an insurance policy so far. No real need yet. I probably don't need the deluxe version, but as you say, "What the Westy needs the Westy gets", right? Replumbing the copper lines out of the stock tank to accommodate the added length of the Extend-Stay took some doing, so I'm glad I did everything at once and don't have to revisit later. This will be the first winter with heater and it feels good knowing I can tap into a 5# bottle quickly.

Mine is on the second tank on the passenger side, convenient to have it near the sliding door. You would not need to bring the 5# tank along. _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

Since you have a second tank already on the passenger side, why not go with the auto-balancing/failover system MadSpaniards describes elsewhere in the forum. I would choose this first and the Extend-a-Stay second. Of course, Mad installed both which is Super Deluxe. |

I had one on the driver's side tank and it was great. Sometimes getting the onboard tanks filled is a pain so to make things easy I just take a 5 or 10lbr with me to camp for the weekend . Easy to have them filled. If I go winter camping I'll take a 20lb tank.
I have since had to replace the regulator on the driver's side tank and there is no room for it now. I'll probably install a second tank and put it on the passenger side. _________________ 89 Syncro |

I have found myself needing a spare tank, with the propex/fridge/stove being used for 5 days in winter temps I filled and it took 2gallons about, so
I was close to being out....and on the 5th night I couldnt sleep, every time the propex fired up I thought it was going to be its last, this would be good paranoid insurance. |

I run a daisy chain of these
http://coleman.com/product/perfectflowtrade-compac...Lwuj6U9l0s
Check out LL Bean, Cabellas, REI and Gander Mtn.
Coleman especially has all you will even need to run off propane.
To keep it on point with this thread....I hook up to my Syncro Westy with an
Extend - a - Stay. |

Nice! I must admit, I somehow had in mind the gaslights from the '20's, which we had in an old house when I was a kid. _________________ '82 SyncroWesty, the first ever conversion.'06 Subaru 2.5L |

I do have one of these it was courtesy of BillM. The fitting at the tank under the van.

THis certainly looks like an easier solution than the extend-a-stay. Any details? _________________ '90 Westy Syncro EJ25 (money pit #1)

I think a propane heater is the biggest reason for needing more propane. I ran out a lot during ski camping trips and it really stinks when you are counting on the heater.
In crappy conditions, attaching anything to the underneath tank is lousy. Imagine having to connect to this in the middle of the night.
This is a quick disconnect fitting protected by the little door and plumbed into the propane lines under the sink. I have a 1 gallon tank which is equivalent to 8 one pounders if my math is right. The tank attaches with a standard barbq hose/regulator and you can choose which tank to get propane from. I don't think this install is any more work than putting in an extend a stay and it is much more convenient to use.
