Meefermadness thats great to hear !!!
I noticed that you only have 18 posts in 8 years . Hopefully this new project prompts you to post more as i am sure that we all would love to see this car some more !!!
By the way, what are your plans for it, if any ?
Again, congratulations !!! (jealous) _________________ 1968 L50f regatta blue notchback

Fishslapper: The car was delivered yesterday in a all out driving rainstorm. It seems to be in great shape with needing some minor rust repairs on the front fenders and also some brake issues. It has had a paint job where they did not remove any rubber and the entire car needs rubber. Also all of the welting was painted over. The pan seems to be perfect along with all the inner fender wells. Needs seat covers (striped Naugahyde), headliner and carpet, the door panels with some work will be fine.
I would like to put Fuchs on it and lower slightly but otherwise keep totally stock. It came with a spare (original) engine and transmission which I plan to rebuild this summer.
In the past I have been into Type 1's (25 years ago) and have owned a couple of Notch's but that was a long time ago. I will be relying on the forum to help with parts and advice. Thanks so much for welcoming me into the Type 3 fold!

Lols ! I am a big fan of Monty python and for some reason the fish slapping dance skit was particularly funny as a 14 year old seeing it for the first time and so i started using it round about 12 years ago while in my late 20's. I think mike fisher thought i was trying to start something !!
Funny you mention about the repaint being all over the seals ! I have to change all of mine (working on it now) because of the same lazy bs. All of my seals have 1\8 inch of blue paint on them ..........why not take the 45 mins. to pull everything off and then paint ??
Good luck with the project, keep us in the loop, and congratulations again!
Oh and meefermadness ?? I have tried lots of reefer but...........

Tucked the car away for the moment in my woodshop, it was a tight fit, but it is dry and free from wandering cats that want to climb on it. The car came with piles of parts, unfortunately most were used parts. Not sure how a guy could go through three master cylinders in the time he owned it.
Where are the best sources for parts, window rubber, chrome trim and a full engine rebuild kit??
Bruce
PS I heard a story that the car was bought in Germany and shipped over here on an aircraft carrier. It was stored under the wing of a Harrier Jet; wouldn't that make a cool picture!!
PSS Never tried reefer, well maybe once, but I have owned over 50 vw's in the past. That makes me "meefer madness" |

Congrats MeeferMadness. I would have liked that 64, but with all the drama going on around Notchboy, it was not worth it to deal with the seller. Good to hear your experience was good and he no longer has it. _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

Throwing this out to the whole of the 1500 club. A HS buddy of mine has a 62 NB, and he is looking for flat, red rear taillight lens. His is a Europeon/US tourist delivery model and came originally with these lenses.
Anyone know of any or have any they want to sell. His are crackling.
Thanks.
You can contact me if you have any. _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

I would look for some 4 lug disc spindles, rotors and calipers (or an entire front beam to swap out), along with 4 lug drums, hubs and backing plates. These parts (drums, hubs and rotors) can then be re-drilled for the Porsche pattern, and you can keep ALL of the original parts in case you want to swap it back to stock, and stay in the 1500 Club. I'd also convert to a dual circuit master cylinder while I'm in there (for safety).
Since you're in the PNW, contact Joel (Boo-Koo-Z) for these parts, since he's always parting out cars. He has a bunch of listings in the Samba Classifieds too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Not in stock. I told him the same thing. I got a few leads on some, and was also told that WCM has repops. _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

Still taking members???
or does the slight lowering and wheel choice fail me?
My '65 1500 S Variant is a British RHD car with a genuine 88,000 miles on the clock when i bought it. (now 95,000 miles as it gets used)
It was in a bad way having sat outside (in the UK) for 20 years plus before i touched it.
I've not restored it... that would have been a crime! it's been preserved!
Of course it needed work but it now wears approx 75% original paint and the interior is totally original as is most the rest of the car.
Work was mainly metalwork, then painted in to match the original and a lot of elbow grease cleaning up the interior. Full mechanical rebuild using mainly the original parts.
I repaired the original wings (sorry fenders) which was a lot of work, cutting up good wings to repair my original wings rather than just replace with the solid wings... but it meant i kept the original paint!
I still need to improve the front seats (but i have the 1970's covers on them for now). I just need to find some material for the repair work.
Not sure what else to say about it, its damn near how it left the factory bar the wheels and a spline or 2
PS. i know some sharp eye will spot the beetle mirrors that were used in the first place

Yup, dropping it and non-stock rims will keep you out. Sorry. My T-34 is real close to being in, but the front was too low, according to a few members of the 1500 club that saw it in person. It probably didn't help that I had the front loaded with a bunch of stuff for a 3000 mile trip. That's ok with me, as I built the car to drive and enjoy. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
