Hello there. Welcome to the Split bus world. Up at the top of split bus forum, there's a link that says:
Announcement: Split Bus FAQ and How Tos - *Read before posting*
By following that link, it'll take you to a plethora of super common "Frequently Asked Questions", most of which will answer the basic split bus questions.
This thread is found there, which describes how to ID your camper (and goes through the different variations)

the split bus so42 came in a hardtop version and a pop-top version (shown in your picture). A cool choice for a camper, although really nice so42's can be very pricey.
I have a hardtop so42, it's pretty practical for the limited space inside.
But of course the so42 split bus is a bit more primitive camper than younger baywindow westy's and t3 westy's.
Or you could buy a split bus and build your own camper interior, customized to your own needs.
it's all in the game _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank
you don't have to be crazy to be into VW's, but it sure helps!!
.... if it ain't dutch, it ain't much! |

Just saying, that bus pictured is a very low milage, garage kept, unrestored SO-42. The bright work is bright. The original mesh grey seats covers are intact. The wood is original. The curtains are original. It has the correct engine tin. The roof rack is incorrect, but was later replaced with a correct NOS one.
It is exceptional. I wish I had more crisp pictures of it, as it is the sort of bus you use as a reference.
But as they made about 13,000 of them, and many survived, rock on and get yourself one. look here:

Let's keep the motorcycle stuff / ad off these VW Forums please.
If you are interested, contact this guy directly.
If you want to talk about the actual bike, there is a Motorcycle thread in Off-Topic. |
sorry didn't realise, thanx. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

Suggest to ANY newbie to the camper bus scene to go out and look at all the buses at any VW meet. Nothing worse than to put all your time/love/hard earned $$$ into a bus and find out it was not the right one for you.
For right now hover your mouse cursor over the "Archives" button at upper right. A list will pop up there, left click on the "Literature" and on the next webpage left click on the "Brochures 1949 - 1967" under the "Type 2" column. The next webpage scroll down and left click on any of the images to look at and enjoy!!!
Lots and lots of images, worth a thousand words each.
VW had two official camper builders modifying buses for them. One here in the USA and the other in Germany under the name Westfalia.
Westfalia made several different models of camper interior. Some of these interiors were made at the same time, some petered off as the newer one came into play.
Plus there were hundreds if not thousands worldwide over the years of after market camper companies that started up due to the many used or new panel buses that could be inexpensively converted to a camper. The panel bus itself was not in demand as a Westfalia camper conversions were, and many did not want to wait for many months for a Westfalia. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
