Yesterday, was not a good day. While repairing our brakes, my husband stripped the rear axle nut and the accompanying stub axle (not sure of this is the correct term). My question is this do we need to replace the whole rear end, or can we just replace this part. What has me confused is that I think we have a bus rear end. We have gear reduction boxes which lead me to belive this. This is twice now a $40 repair has become a $1000 castrophy so please save his hide and tell me we can just replace the part. |

yes, you can replace just the stub axles. two part numbers are listed- 211 501 267 and 181 501 267. the 181 part number is 24 teeth, the bus part number is 25 teeth, so confirm which your car has. the 181 part maybe hard to find but bus stub axles are readily available- if worse comes to worse, you can swap the entire reduction box. _________________ OG JHC

If you don't have the money for a new stub axle, you may be able to find a die the next samller size US thread (inches not metric) and cut new threads. Then you can buy a US nut and it should work. Many truck and tractor (farm machinery) shops have these dies and may loan or rent it to you. To buy one would cost more than the axle. _________________ 62 Single Cab (Work Truck)

Luckily we're in Germany, so the part is only going to cost us 60Euro (about 80 us) we tried the imerial nut, but with all the tension and no cotter pin its' slowely slipping off. |
