I drive an 85 Westfalia 2WD with Bostig as daily ride. So far this winter we have only had about two feet of snow total with a maximum one foot on the ground at one time. This year I bought a set of Nokian WRG2 HD. I am impressed. Great in snow , not bad on ice and good in xwind . I drive this van to Florida during the winter and that trip could be totally dry or a snowy challenge north of Georgia. So far these tires work well in either dry or snow. If they hold up at all well in the summer I will install them on the fleet . _________________ wiartonallan

Well, it's not too exciting but it was THE first trip in my van after I bought it and it was snowing...
Hours within handing over the money;
There's snow in the hills...
and in camp the that night...
And the morning after...
That said, I really don't like taking it out in the snow. I plan to use it for closing weekend at Big Sky etc but for the most part it's parked in the winter. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

My snowestfakia:
I know its not much for those measuring in feet and meters but having lived in the south and measuring snow fall in fractions I always get a kick out of this. _________________ '87 syncro gl |

I hope so becaue I'm dying to see how your Peloquin works! We actually had some "complications" getting out of that campsight in the snow/mud when it came time to leave (ground looks flat doesn't it?).
Greystar, what kind of roof do you have on your van? I don't see the seam between the pop top and luggage tray sections that Westies have but the roof isn't as high as the other conversions I've seen. Maybe the photo just doensn't show it clearly? _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

You betcha. It has been a great addition, and with better tires I'm sure it would be even more impressive. We did get stuck in a similar situation in B.C. where I backed into a slight hill on wet grass and got stuck, but in other situations I've gotten out where I'm sure I would have been stuck.
Are you a member of MT Westies facebook page? A bunch of local folks here in MT, mostly in Bozeman. We get together often in the summer for all kinds of projects. Check it out and ask to join....good way to connect. _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

Haha! Pulled this pic off a buddy's facebook page. Not my van. I'm not sure I would allow that kind of behavior, using my van as a jib. But it looks like fun. Should've popped the top to make an even bigger jump! |
