|
|
Took a drive this afternoon to go hunt for a cooling tin... In the pouring rain. When I got back home, I noticed that under all my carpets, both sides, front and back, the padding is soaked??? Looked under the car, I saw no real possibilities for a leak? The pan seems ok? Also, the rubber seal between the car and the pan is in place?
Are there some usual suspects to go look up first here? Or is this gonna be a hunt for a tiny hole / crack?
Still raining outside, so maybe I can gather some digital wisdom prior to getting under the car... _________________ Current :

Common culprit is the corner of the windshield seals. Next ime you are out in the rain keep an eye on these. A small trickle can add up to a lot of water. _________________ Dave

Ok, big issue was trickle of water on my front window, in the corners. Runs seemingly behind the dash, then to where? Somewhere leak onto the floor.
I'll be taking out the window in a day or two. Re-install, try get it sorted out.
Bought the car with what seems to be a new rubber on the window, but also a ton of silicone. _________________ Current :

I have found that sitting inside the car while a partner hoses the car down will tell you where the water is coming from.
Of course, have the assistant squirt in one area, then move on to others.

I think the biggest issue I have at the moment is the trickle / small stream of water on the insides, in the bottom corners of the windshield. Runs into the big hole / gap, then I assume down the A pillar. There is some evidence of rust on the inside of the car under the carpeting. Then into the heater tubes? Out the vents, and onto the floor? Sounds possible right?
I'm going to remove all the carpeting in a few minutes (Sad ... car has brand new interior... seats .... carpets ... roof lining ....) And track and trace.
Thanks for the above links. Made for good reading!! _________________ Current :

Ding, ding, ding!!! That is what we found out ages ago with our type 1s in our rainy PNW of USA weather. New seals need sealant between body and seal, just as VW shows in all dealer info. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
