Anyone tried this exhaust system yet? Looking for feedback as it seems like a good alternative to the usual BugPack header and single silencer.

An OTT won't work in my application so lets not get into that debate please.

find yourself a type3 header. find a muffler you like. find an exhaust shop local to make it fit like you want. it's what i did on my 2021 in my square. i found a 1 1/2" header(yes they were made for t3). ordered a 14" turbo tube(like a glasspack but with 2 baffle tubes inside instead of glasspacking) and had a local shop do the bends to make it work. mine is large flanged and with all that considered actually has MORE clearance than an OTT and i've got about $150 in the whole shebang....ken....

I have not used that set-up, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work, if it will fit your application. In fact, it looks very similar to these.

Basically the same header w/ (probably not very) different muffs.

Or do as Luckyhstiff suggests. For my Square, I used the existing header. (Like #2 above) Then bought & returned 3-4 different muffs until I found the one I wanted. Had an elbow & flange welded to it. Now I have a nice, throaty tone & you can just barely see the muff below the apron. Total investment, less the $100, but a couple of days running round.

A round muffler will fit better/higher behind the apron. I bought used $20 Harley-Davidson mufflers for the EMPI header on our '67.

i'll have to try and snap a pic before work tomorrow but my large flange 1 1/2" header tuck MORE than any of those. with such a short tube it's a tad loud but not to bad. a little louder than an ott set up. i have considered getting another dual muffler set up made up to see if it sounds/performs any different...ken....

I also have a single round tube muffler. I had the muff shop weld on an elbow, similar to the one on the muff in the last link, above. The elbow allowed me to use a longer(=quieter) tube.
It tucks up nicely behind the apron, much like Mike's second pic.

looks like it hangs lower than it does in these pics because i tried to take it at a bit of an angle to show the tube and all. like i said it actually has as much or more clearance as an OTT....ken....

Just a question, not a criticism, but why did you have it exit to the right instead of to the left where the original exhaust cutout in the apron is ?

a) to try to keep from crowding the left side more since the full flow runs out to that side.

b) to try and keep the "noise" more to the other side of the car

when i do the body work the plan is to make the right cut out for exhaust like the stock left...ken....

Ken, Do you have any pictures of your engine out that shows the header?
It looks very much like the typical non-OTT header, but I've not seen one with the big flange on it.

i'll dig as i know there should be pics of it on the test stand...

no labels on them but they are assumed to be old Thunderbird or Empi headers. both were said to have made a small number of 1 1/2" t3 headers back on the day. the source i got it from had more large flange and small flange OLD stock but not markings of any kind on any of them...ken....

Ken, any chance you can post a pic of how your oil filter is mounted? I have been contemplating the best approach for a while now. It came mounted to the body but it hangs down quite a bit for my taste.
