A very nice member of the Central Ohio Vintage Volkswagen Club gave me a Road & Track from Oct 1961 which has a feature on the to be released VW 1500. Interesting reading.

Does WOB-V-735 look like it's white? because then it's probably chassis number 12!!

look at the 5th paragraph of this page from the Car and Driver article!

The 735 car in the Road and Track article does not look White to me.
Maybe Gulf Blue?

The car in the Car and Driver article looks White.
(And they say it ism as you pointed out)

Maybe they just used the same license plates?

The White steering wheel with the black column looks weird...

Weird how the wheel/column is all black in the Road and Track inside photo but the Road and Track outside photo shows him gripping a White wheel.

Oh there is plenty more weirdness than that. Id like to see how many odd things we can find in all the photos above. I will send a 1500 club sticker to the winner. Its not as easy as it seems. Ill be looking for the differences between production and these early press "prototype" versions. Some of you may be at a disadvantage as you may of never seen a early 62 production car.

Let the games begin Cool

IIRC the "V" stands for "Verkaufer", or dealer, and their dealer plates are used there as they are here, e.g., they're registered to the sales agent and not to the car.

The oddest part is the front beam !

The 2 inner veritcal connections are welded in - not stamped as a 1 piece

That makes it a '61 front beam

I thought V were Versuchswagen or Experimental vehicle plates

Yep. All early photos Ive ever noticed have a fit carpet instead of a rubber mat.

Thats one.

Full carpet would have been better IMHO.
