Then we get the 1500S and hence dual PDSIT carbs, notice how different 64s and 65s are.
another source for the same carbs:

Then we get the 1600, notice how in 67 the powerjet disappears, and with the dual port jetting becomes different for left and right carbs, and also the changing thickness for the needle and seat washer depending on the year
more to come later

Thanks for posting this it is very good!
My carbs like most are mutts I guess.
1964 1500s single port
23 mm vents
135 mains
180 airs
and 45 idles
I have the dual power jet type tops on my setup currently as well. I like the way it is running with this setup. I have many carbs and could try several of these configuations. This spring I will try and see which it seems to like best. _________________ 1964 Notchback

automatic 68-69, with altitude correcting main jets:
68-69 autos again plus 70 autos, notice the spec for the 68-69 needle & seat is different from above!

70 and 71 jetting:
a different 71 jetting chart (more reliable, it's the only one that matches my stock carbs!)
71 and 72:
71 and 72 autos (71 is wrong, they did have power jets as seen above)

And here the explanation for the side to side jetting differences:
so, if you have a filter with the right side like the dotted line, on a dual port you should run different jetting on every side, but if you have the skinnier version you must run equal jetting, or that's what I assume from my rusty german and looking at the jetting charts! |

seems like you have stock 65 model year jetting, maybe they upgraded the carbs to the following year's spec? check the VW number engraved on the carbs, that will tell the story!

That would be great info, if I could read it. I'll try to find a way to translate it.

I was the one who "upgraded " them. I simply went from the blue Bentley and what I gathered in this forum. What you posted is much more in depth. I wonder if the carbs really changed from 64 to 65 or if these were changes made from results of the year of real world use. _________________ 1964 Notchback

You have correctly translated the German text. The yellow paragraph to the left of the illustration mentions that the internal design of the air cleaner has been changed to provide "the same resistance value" to both carbs. Therefore both carbs can now use the same jets.
Thanks for all your details and research! |

Very interesting reading. I am in the middle of rebuilding my stock single port 1600 engine for my 66 Squareback. I am currently rebuilding the 32 PDSIT carbs. What I currently have is 23mm venturies, left carb has 135 main jet, 180 air correction jet The right carb has, 130 main jet, 240 air correction. I also have the early style stock air cleaner. After looking at the charts in this forum I need the following. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I should have:
24mm venturies
Left carb. 132.5 main jet and 150 air correction jet.
Right carb. 130 main jet and 120 air correction jet.

One other thing, I have converted everything to 12v. I have the 12v cut off . Is there an advantage to replacing these with the mechanical idle jets?

There are no engraved numbers on the carbs. The number consist of stamped, raised (cast) or aluminum tag. These are not the original carbs. But were NOS three years ago.
Complete info as they are set up now, using the orignal oil bath air cleaner
32 PSIT-3
B 6 116 (stamped)
VW 41-2 (stamped)
Aluminum tag 311 129 026B
23mm venturies
main jet 130
air correction jet 240
idle jet with electric 55
This appears to be a 65-66 based carb.
32 PDSIT -2
5040364 (stamped)
VW 129 025 AX
Aluminum tag 311 129 025AX
23mm venturies
main jet 135
air correction jet 180
idle jet with electric 55
It appears that this is 64 based carb,? I need to convert them to the 66, 1600 version.
I think I am on the right track, I just want to make sure.
I have a stock single port 1600 converted to 12v, counter weighted crank, everything pretty much stock.

Ok, both carbs have 3 tubes. I'm not sure which is the power jet tube. The vertical tube is the same length. The other two tubes, over the venturies are slightly longer. one is about .030" longer and the other is about .070" longer.
Which is the power jet tube?

according to the table, on a 66 the acc pump tube is 12mm away from the gasket plane, the power jet is 15mm away, and you should be using a 1,5mm thick washer under the needle and seat, I would only use that washer if the carbs turn out to be 66s |
