The florescent light in my van was acting up, so I decided to go another direction. I used a strip of LED lights along the bottom of the bulkhead. Gives off a pretty good amount of light. Opted for the RBG light set, so I can pick different colors of lighting. Set up has a remote as well.

I've gone over to the dark side and
with my $500 bid won a 1992 Eurovan at an estate sale

It has been sitting for the last two years since the death of its owner.
2.5L gas automatic 250km and the body is good
it has a wheelchair lift on the side
one year old set of studded tires
lots of receipts for the new parts

The two front tires and the battery are flat.

It was delivered today on the back of the flat deck

I did a compression test and got 180psi on all 5.

sure neat how the radiator tilts forward to get to the plugs

flushing the slushbox and timing belt funnies next

its almost like a huge Rabbit

cheers
hank

Removed and cleaned my headlights using hot water and soap. They look great now. I also replaced 2 broken headlight adjusters with wall anchors, fuel hose and washers (easy fix). The interior got a good cleaning today. It's about 99% done so now's all that's left is the minor fiddly detail stuff, but today I vacuumed up all the dog hair from the PO's two pups, plus a huge pile of leaves and dirt that had accumulated under the rear bench over many years, and I cleaned the carpets, seats and the Z-bed cushion cover. The inside not only looks great, but it feels clean and smells a lot nicer. Tomorrow I'll finish up with the interior detailing and do a clay bar & wax job afterwards. I crawled around underneath the van and found some places to clean up some grounds and figured out where the various plumbing runs go to. I've started to narrow down the fuel smells as well.

Installed a rebuilt PS rack. I got it on close out at rockauto for $165 including tie rods and no core charge.

Put in a rebuilt FP a few days ago. Didn't stop the whine. Removed it from the rubber mounts to free hang. Still whined. Changed out the FPR. Still noisy. Removed the gas cap to ensure tank venting. Still whined.

Pulled the trigger again today on a more pricey Bosch. More money works, right? There was still a bit of gurgling/whine. It was sporadic but I'm hoping it was just the lines clearing out. Gonna take 'er out for a spin tonight.
Geesh

Since acquiring "The Twinkie", I have been working through a steady stream of minor fixes. Nothing too big or complicated, just annoying items which the previous owner neglected to take care of. Burnt out bulbs, a few ground faults, the stereo that refused to work....

Today I decided to fill up the fresh water holding tank.. I knew the pump was working, what I didn't realize that it was working, but only 75% of the water was actually getting to its destination - the tap! The other 25% was piss**g all over the underside of the rear bench! Gah.

Well a new pump and an hour of time spent that would make MacGuyver proud, it's all sorted!

Tomorrow shall bring another day and another fix im sure.. Wink

Yesterday:

Alternator belt broke on a short local run.
Had what was needed to fix on the side of the road.
Good to carry spares. Changed the p.s belt too.

I can't say that I "fixed" anything today... But I certainly did make a mess!

Gave the ol' girl a nice coat of wax this afternoon. I'll finish up the detail stuff tomorrow and replace my fuel hoses too.

Added a South African lower grill and clear corners to my '86 Weekender. I'm thinking that a bit of trimming of the aftermarket corners will be necessary for them to sit nicely in the grill. Otherwise, I am very happy with the look. especially once I get another fiberglass bumper on it to replace the one that was hit by a delivery truck just before I stored it for the winter. (I had a chrome bumper that was original to the van that I put back on for the interim.)

On the South African topic, I got myself a new grill this week.
Thanks to a Gift Certificate I won at work, I allowed myself to purchase stuff just because I wanted it Laughing

Also swapped out my headlight switch and wired it up to the door buzzer relay so the buzzer comes on when the lights are left on & the door is open.. Love it!
