Hi, I just bought a 69 westfalia and I dont know a thing about cars. This one runs pretty well. I drove it and it seemed fine. It is a little loud and the clutch petal is a little hard. But anways it has rust on two spots, its on each side right by the door. The guy said I could have my friend who welds fix it. Has anyone done this before and can give me some advice about fixing those 2 problems. Thanks Shelly\

You can look at a site like cip1.com for replacement panels, then you cut the old rusty bits out, weld in the new piece, then prime & paint them to match. Jeremy

Or, if the holes arent that bad, you could cut the rust out, and use sheet metal to fill in the hole, build up the welds, grind ' em flat, prime, and paint. Jeremy

Oh, and it'd be a good idea to get a copy of John Muir's idiot's guide to keeping your vw alive, for starters, then maybe a Bentley manual. Jeremy
