Seems like they should slide right in but not sure. I'm aware of the piston differences between flat-top pistonsand dished pistons like whats in there. More concerned about the 2.0 liter rod length. Finally if the dished 2.0 pistons check out tolerance wise any problem with those pistons/rings and running the vw 94mm barrel/cylinder with the dished 2.0 l pistons ? Thanks in advance.

it's a bit difficult to figure out exactly what you're asking...

if the VW pistons are made for a 2.0l Bus/Vanagon aircooled engine they will fit the 914. if they are 94mm bore pistons/cylinders for a type 1 engine they will not work.

Thanks Scott, you answered it. 94mm barrels for Vanagon/Bus. What do think of running the dished pistons that are in block (if they check out) with the VW 94mm barrels, or is it better to go with a matched set of pistons and barrels

there should be no issue with mixing bus cylinders and 914 pistons. the bore is the same and if the cylinders you want to use are german and in spec and condition then it could be better to use them than reproduction parts. it all depends on the condition and measurements. but the cylinders are the same as far as factory specs go.
