i just found this bus today its a very very solid bus been restored many years ago .

its showing some age but it is almost all their from what i can tell

what im looking for is some help im not really a bus guy and from what i am reading that the sub hatchs are very rare to find just how rare i dont know thats why im posting any help would be great and a somewhat close value would be great i dont want to get in over my head

nice find! Early subhatch westy's are rare, but valuable and saleable are a different story. It really depends on the condition and if the bus is fairly complete.

the bus is solid the frame jack points out riggors inner and outer rockers are all solid as can be the front floor needs very minior patches most of the interior is present all of the tent and poles are present the table the stove are all their in in good og condition the wood is showing some age but is all their

its also still has all its matching numbers motor and tranny in it its showing 34000 miles on the spedo not sure how correct that is but the motor is running and sounds good

do you have any more interior pics? It looks like a late '57/'58 interior if it is a westy interior at all. I don't recognize the mirror on the closet door and it looks a little different, but could have been added later. It has pressed bumpers and early 55-57 taillights but a late '58-65 style decklid. Perhaps a variety of parts were used in the 'restoration'?

i can take some more tomarrow their is one small cabnet in the rear that is from a 63 westy but the owner says all the rest of the interior is og to the bus and yes the engine lid has been changed out for a later one for some reason it is for sure a 56 the title and all the vin numbers match i checked that this evening

sounds cool, I am not aware of too many '56s with stoves but perhaps someone can chime in who's owned one with a stove. Where is the stove located? You are lucky to come across an early bus like this, let alone a westy, enjoy it!

the stove is burried deep inside the bus lol i can see it but cant touch it lol the owner said teh stove went under the hatch in the roof this is why im posting this up lol im not a big bus guy and dont know a whole lot obout them ive had a hundred or so beetles over the years but never a bus

So did they change out the turn signal switch so the tailights are brakelight now?
If so the wiring diagram formthat year wil not match up since it orignal one had the one brakelight in the decklid

Nice find, a sub-hatch Westy is on my bucket list of buses to own. Really doesnt have to be that early just a sub-hatch. Well at least a small hatch, Mango, OG Westy kit, sub-hatch. Oh yeah and the OG tent too. Very Happy Very Happy
