I know you guys call it building, I call it shopping, think that's where you go wrong w/ your wives! Wink What girl doesn't like to shop? Laughing

What you see is my 1987 Dove Blue VW Vanagon Westfalia.

I just wanted to thank each and everyone for the positive, wonderful and fantastic experience you made this. And, a special thank you for all the help and time you spent asking my questions. My mechanic was impressed w/ my knowledge, especially for a girl. Wink

I paid $500 more than the mechanic said it *should* go for, but he also said he wouldn't loose it over money, knowing the price they were offering. They'll be paying for half the upcoming repairs. It has 2 pin sized dots of rust. It has 1 tiny part of a seam that is starting to rust--getting fixed next week. It needs a couple of new light lenses and new mats.

And, note the ugly wheels, not to worry, it'll need new tires just in time for Christmas or my birthday! So, you guys will enjoy the pleasure of my company on the wheel thread! Baahhhhaaa! Wink

Thank you for the community support!

My new ride!

tam

Nice looking!

Gee Tam, that sure looks like my Dove Blue '88 Westfalia. Are you sure it is a 1997 model? I'd suspect a 1987. Slip of a finger on the keyboard?

It'd have to be a South African import to be a 1997, right? LOL Indeed, thank you typo, I fixed it. 1987. WISH it was a 97!

Thank you everyone! And, for your help and patience too!

Well, since you asked! Indeed!

Not sure I'll be able to put the pop top up/down myself? Can other small/short women do it? Is there a trick. I'll certainly need a stool!

Put a pop-top strut assist on your shopping list Smile
Looks like it came with a nice awning?
How is the engine and mileage?
Congrats!

congrats. finally the questions will start Laughing

you'll want to check out and possibly install some poptop struts..
a fellow poster here makes a real nice kit, and always nice to support the little guy..

it'll help to hold the roof in a position while you reposition for abetter grip putting the roof up or down.

I'm not that tall. Maybe a small step stool might help to get better leverage.

Pop-top strut assist on my list. Not sure I've heard of or seen that anywhere? Is that the same thing I read about for those w/ roof racks. My stuff is like a virus and spreads into any possible space available, eventually up will be my only option! LOL

You bet my questions will *really* start, thank you very much, the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked that then damages her bus! I've only driven it a few times and I already have a list! No idea why those that were impatient w/ my questions before I bought, were telling me to hurry up and by, they should have been trying to scare me away! Rolling Eyes LOL

Could someone PM me the link to these special pop top struts for girls. Cool

Going to google putting the pop top up/down. The guy that bought it from showed me 3 times how to pull all the fabric in so it didn't get damaged. He even made sure Barry knew how to do it! He was quickly satisfied! LOL The perfect person to buy from, cares about his stuff even after it's not his anymore!

Thank you, I like that bed bath and beyond one, looks like it will fold nice and small and flat. Kind of wonder if it may be more practical and if it would work for the bed as well, if I got one taller step stool? There was a thread about the step stool I use for painting that then fits across the pop top.

Where do I get a Bentley? I have regular AAA, so that just won't do. It expires in March, so I'll leave it be for now. The fuel lines were already done, but years ago and they will be done again. Better safe than burned. LOL

Waiting was *painful*, I actually found it last week, but the only mechanic in Salt Springs was on vacation, so they opted to come here this weekend instead. Which was nice, I hate ferries, they make me motion sick. But, the waiting was painful...and, since the add was still up until recently, despite the fact she'd told me she wouldn't sell it to anyone else... Confused Confused Confused I thought Zip it tight was the best way to go! Meanwhile, a few other really nice ones came up! I always really like that white way cheaper on from the auction, but was told to stay clear by three of the people helping me. So, I did! It was probably great, but they all said that you can put a new engine into a bad one, but that will not necessarily make it a *good* one. They wanted me to have an *excellent* one, which I got! 9 out of 10 ain't bad for a gal that knew virtually nothing 6 months ago! Cool

It's so exciting and great to be an official member of this community!
