Jon,
If you watch the other vids Gregg has on YouTube you will see the Gold Syncro sitting outside the garage.
The fuel filler says it all.
With all due respect I am trying to help Gregg along here and post his own vid, as I'm sure he is busy with other things. |

thanks, yes, the gold van is definitely another syncro, not Pastis. Still Awesome!

I just want to see "whatever" Syncro van running and driving so final ground clearance and Syncro driveline modifications can be documented.
If the clearance is there and the Syncro drives without vibration throughout the powerband.... ....than Gregg is one up on me.
I want to see this happen.
Then after finalization, I want to know how the trans will hold up. |

this is a darn neat van build thread, however it is really long, now 40 pages!
I wonder if the original poster could start a new thread showing the completed van in photos. Kind of a quick summery post. That would make it easy to view this masterpiece of work with out having to dredge thru all 40 pages.
this is really cool, first time I have seen this thread dispite being a fairly active poster over the years.
nice job!!!!!! |

Please, not another new thread! The forum is already a bird's nest.
I appreciate threads like this, and the limey thread and so on.
Even if they are long, at least all the info is in one place.
I'm sure once it's all done Greg will post up a quick before after in this thread. |

Love that great boxer rumble!
The torque of that motor certainly pushes it along. _________________ http://www.subarugears.com |

Here you can see the two type of installation that are possible. They both output amazing power. I would still choose the water to air because of compactness and keep the original architecture of tubing. Short pipe=better throttle response.
I designed a new way to cool the intercooler! It's now cooled with the engine coolant like the new 2013 Volkswagen TDI CKRA engine. Because the EGR cooler is deleted the cooling potential is stronger... adding to this the oversized vanagon radiator and the mile long coolant tubes there is plenty of cooling power. to conclude, there is no need of the additional coolant installation with this engine in a Vanagon. That make the installation super clean, lighter and less chances of leaks.

Interesting.
What temp is the coolant on the return side of the radiator? Seems like it would be kind of hot still for good AWIC function (probably still 140-150F ?), compared the outlet temp of compressed charge from the turbo. It would be consistent at least - that's a BIG plus with AWIC setups. Easier for the ECU to work with for sure.
What kind of manifold pressure does the 2.0 generate?
I like the reduction in piping and added simplicity. If the new Tdi is routed this way, then it is obviously ok - I'm just curious.
I ran an AWIC in my '93 turbo Legacy for 7+years. That setup had no reservoir, but its own coolant supply (and 2 in-series heat exchangers). IIRC - I would see outlet temps from the AWIC in the 125-135F range after 3rd->4th gear pulls (on a 40F day). It would take 10+min of cruising to pull it back down to 'normal' (~20-30F over ambient). Lots of temp variation, and not setup for track days or anything, but great for around town/shorter blasts _________________ sold -> '85 Wolfsburg Syncro / 'Built' DOHC EJ25 (a great machine!)
