BenT, yes it's moi, Mr. BZ.

Velcro certainly is an option, although my goal is to make them eventually like OG as possible. No Swedish stuff for moi, except IKEA!

Mr. BZ clearly hasn't been busy w/ a Swede of the female variety. Twisted Evil

I can appreciate making them as OG as possible. Just thought that it would be just as simple to make the canopy OG and keep the oval holes and belt. But keep the buckle off. Wink

BenT-Other than the former Mrs. T. Woods, Abba, Uma Thurman, The Swedish Bikini Team, etc., I prefer my females to be heavy duty Germanic stock, like Mrs. BZ!

Here is another rack that I'm working on. My intention for this rack is to be able to place a canoe on top. Several people around here are interested in making more of these.
The rack in not being designed to mount a canvas but it could happen.
The tube material is 6061 Aluminum 2.875" outside dia ans .203"
wall thickness.
With this size tube you can also mount a spare tire on the back. This rack is being made now. I will have it mounted on the DoKa in a few weeks.
I'll take pictures when it's done.
My Nato canopy design is on hold for now. Sad

Bman can you tell me more about this vinyl conditioner that you used? Brand? Supplier? Thanks,
Gregg

Here are 2 pics of the knock down version of the German style full height hoops, designed to be bolted together after being shipped-all other details as per OG, I believe as I have seen 2 different styles.

The 2nd pic is of the front cab bar that goes in the canopy front to fasten the front flap to the cab w/ hold down connections on the front hoops. We will sell that separately also as the OG version has this piece heat welded into the canopy & it can't be removed w/ o cutting or ungluing flap! Our canopies will have velcro closure to allow piece to be inserted or removed from our canopies.

We will make a solid hoop assembly that will be able to ship by bus & will be less expensive. That hoop will also have a rounded outside corner like 1 OG hoop (syncrodoka's) that I have seen.

YMMV

Nice job, Mr. BZ. What about the longitudinal ribs?

Since I sold my German tilt, I can't recall if the corner posts were U-channels or square tubing like my Swedish tilt.

Longitudinal ribs or "bows" are 1" dia galvanized steel tubing, known locally as electrical conduit or EMT available at your local Home Despot, etc. for about 50 cents a LF.
My hoops are made from 12 gauge rolled steel into channels w/ the same dimensions as OG. The corner foot pieces are also 3 sided bents like OG.
See pic of bow lengths for Dokas & SC's. These dimensions are for reference only-use them at your own risk.

Wow! Just Wow! I love what you've done to recreate the Tilt top.

Question. Can a Swedish style headache bar be used to secure the sides of the tent behind the cab instead of the vertical channel pieces you use?

When can I send money for my new Tilt Top?!

Don't know if Tom is going to make a Swedish tilt. But to throw my 2 cents in there, my Swedish tilt just goes over the headache rack. The headache racks seem to differ slightly from the once used with with the Vindic canopy in that there are square tubing receivers welded to the ones used with tilts. The tilt that I have does come with two extra "legs" so they can be used without the headache rack. It all appears stock. The only reason I am not 100% sure is because I recently saw a Swedish tilt which had been modified to have an roof rack of sorts. The corner posts were extended through the roof corners and rack attach on top. I don't think this arrangement was stock because it effectively loses water intrusion integrity at those corners. However, they are so well done that the rack looks like it came from the factory that way.

That said, my wish list is to get a tilt canvas for my Swedish tilt which secure like the German canvas instead of having all those giant rubber bands securing the sides and rear flaps.

Still working on final pricing & what it includes, such as canopy w/ or w/o gutter bar, hoops & gutter bar or just hoops, break down or 1 piece hoops, etc.
Stay tuned.
Bent, send moi dimensions of Swedish Bikini Team hoops & we will start planning on making those-should be easier than German, but I agree on the subing the bungees out.

Send cash in small denominations to [email protected] or just Paypal, checks!

Are you going to any VW events in my part of the country? I can loan you a complete tilt including rubberized canvas.

I am coming out to Sacramento in the next month or 2 to pick up a syncro doka from Jeff-if I time the visit right, might make Syncro Fest, if not, then at least I will be in the state.

Which one are you getting? I saw three there a couple of weeks ago. I know the green 16" is going to Alaska. There was Marsala(?) Red and and white one. Can recall but possibly a blue one there too. I'm 2 hours south west of Jeff. Might get a chance to drop it by there or see you at SF. The thing is I am only likely going to SF for one day. Typically Thursday only.

Following this thread with interest!

If i had unlimited time on my hands, i'd fool around with this:

A bug-based DIY design from the 70s. The back half looks like a Nato shell crossed with a popup camper

The "Phoenix" was based on a VW bus and not a bug.

mmmdiesel, sorry I just saw your post. To restore the shine and condition to the stock tilt I used a product called "Black Again" that I got from my local FLAPS store. I've used it to shine the plastic on my dash, mirrors and rubber seals. Of course I have to apply it at least 2-3X a year to keep the shine. For the tilt it seems to last a few months. I tend to use my tilt only during the summer months May-October (winter here is high winds and rain) and I applied it at least twice during that time it is UV activated. Until I know better I'm satified with this product.

.
Does anyone make a Doka cover that could just cover the Bed while the Sides are up?

Think they might be called a "Taunna Cover" <= spelling?

Guess it wouldn't be too tuff for a Boat Canvas maker, just thought I'd check to see if one was offered, or packaged?
