|
|
I picked these Hella fog or driving lamps up at a non VW swap meet. Nice overall condition. Just need to get the overspray off of them. I have pulled them apart to inspect the bulbs. One is shot. What do I have here. I know it's probably not a VW light, but some insight as to what I "Picked" would be nice.
On the lens: Hella TN1-TN2 K8201 2-57764- Made in Germany SAE F65 SF-S5
Label inside TN2 1N1 001 173-04 K8201 115 ZNW-2 35W
SF-S5-45W
On the Bulb OSRAM 7309 12V 35W GERMANY K5304.
Now I know they are 35 watt and 12 volt that's easy to figure out. But for what? Over all diameter is about 5 inches or 127MM
They look pretty neat, Black housings with nice fluted lens, and will probably end up on my 68 D-cab someday.

I have a set somewhere also. They are off of a 70's-80's Mercedes-Benz.
Edit: I forgot I had a pic from back in the day when I ran them on my car.

Those are not quite the same though. You're probably right about them being Mercedes. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

BAM right on the money. Thanks!!!
70-72 Porsche 914
Hella TN1-TN2 Fog Lamps: 1970 - 1972
The Hella TN1-TN2 fog light was available on the 1970-1972 Porsche 914 model years and the Porsche 914/6 models. They are round Hella lamps comprised of a semi-gloss black housing attached to the mount base with four unpainted brass rivets, a gloss-black painted brass trim ring, a reflector dish, a light diffuser, a 35 or 45 watt Phillips bulb, a 110mm Hella TN1-TN2 lens, a lens gasket, four wire lens clips, a wire grommet and a ring retainer clip (with screw). The lens has a horizontal offset about one-third the way up the vertical fluting. The trim ring is molded to angle the the ring face inward. The light diffuser that shields the bulb in the TN1-TN2 lamps is chrome.

Interesting, I wonder if both the Porsche and the Mercedes use the same ones?

The ones pictured above all seem slightly different from each other to me. Mine pictured below came off of a mid 60's mercedes....Very close to the others also.

The Mercedes have chrome housings and the lens is different (T4) Notice the split line at the bottom of mine (T1-T2)
My housings are black. The Porsche links above nailed them as 70-72. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

No, those MB lights are larger.
However, the earlier MB sedans (200 series?) came with foglamps, but in the US those were swapped for amber running or turn signal lamps. |

Yes, I stand corrected, you guys are all correct. I took another look at mine, and even the mounting brackets are a little different on the MB ones as compared to the Porsche ones.
Great info, and now I know, thanks. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames
