Hi everyone,
I need to remove the upper hinge off my door. I removed all the screws and the hinge is loose but the check strap is preventing the hinge from falling out. It seems almost impossible to remove the check strap hardware with the hinge in the door. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Zack

the pins that hold the check strap are longer than the opening. It should come out if its tilted, you may need to remove door to get the easy angle. I dremelled the opening to make it eaiser to get back in on door side. Or take the pin out of the pillar side so the check strap does not limit you. Then remove hinge from door.

Well the door is off the car. I tilted the hinge and I was able to tap it from behind and it came out. But it seems impossible to get it back in. In normal conditions should the hinge easily come out when tilted?

Thanks,
Zack

But is that necessary ? What is the actual factory recommend procedure for doing this job?

Thanks,
Zack

I soppose you could install the pins after putting the hinge on the door but they are difficult enough with out doing it blind. The area I removed sits behind the hinge, out of site.
