remove old glue residue from pop top

Any ideas on the best way to remove this glue residue from my poptop?

I want to make sure any chemicals I use do not melt the plastic FG(!)

This is from some velcro a PO had there to hold fishing rods.

Lacquer thinner, Enamel Reducer, Mineral sprits ( slower) , Goo Gone will all work without as long as it hasn't been painted in it's prior life.

You can remove the glue without any problems.

3M Adhesive Remover. It is designed to not attack normal automotive materials and finishes. However, it's harder to find and more expensive than the Goo Gone. I'd use a plastic scraper to remove the dried crud and when no more will crumble/pry off use a chemical.

Do you just want the sticker crap gone, or do you want the whole top to look the same color after? Answer could vary dramatically depending on what your end game is.

Either way, consider the pop top seal as you start to spray chemicals capable of removing glue. Make sure you protect it so when all that stuff runs down that you don't create a new problem as you fix this one.

Mineral spirits and a razor blade. MS will not bother the rubber seal in the least.

When scrubbing old adhesive off, I always use a pan scraper:

Doesn't have to be this brand, many kitchen stores have the same thing, different colours, same idea.

A .50 cent plastic putty knife works well for adhesive removal on fiberglass gel coat.

On paint the softer vinyl lettering sqeege is recommended--won't mar the paint.

I use a rubber adhesive / lettering removal tool.

Works fast, no solvents required, no putty knife.
