|
|
Does anyone happen to know the size/type of hardware needed for the front table mount in a Westy? I've tried all of the usual suspects that I have laying around, and nothing seems to jive.
Nada in the search.
Thanks in advance. _________________ "See The Glass As Already Broken."

Bracket (holds the table swing-arm):
Oval head panel screws B6.3x13 (top 2) & 6.3x19 (bottom 2)
Table mount (metal gizmo on underside of table):
Fillister head bolts AM5x12
Above hardware is for '85+. _________________ ~Kamz

Other than the dealer or mail order you will not get those mount fasteners easy.
I got something like a #12 x 3/4, if I recall, at the Home Depot to mount a front table support in a van that never had one.
Just find a self tapping big screw you like that is close to the 6.3 mm.
The ones on the bottom of the table will either have to be the metric specified which is not too hard to find a 5mm thread by 12 mm long or so
OR
you get new inch inserts and press them in the table.
Easy to find a standard 5mm machine screw at say Pep Boys or maybe Home Depot also.
Come to think about it, you may get them via a place like GoWesty too.... _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

6.3 mm is so close to 1/4" (0.002") as to be not worth arguing about
My local flaps has stainless sheet metal screws that size, and varying lengths. The only downside is up here in Canada, they are Robertson (square) drive which looks wrong on the van.

Thanks for all of the prompt, helpful responses. After further digging through my hardware collection I was pleasantly surprised to find that side view mirror mounting bolts can be pressed into service in this application. The heads don't sit perfectly flush, but they screw in firmly and hold well.

6.3 IS 1/4" - i.e., the spaced thread screw Gunter in Hanover uses to fix his screen door is the same one that John uses in Boston.
Here's a quick reference on these size
4.2mm = #8
4.8mm = #10
5.5mm = #12
6.3mm = 1/4"
3.5mm is a real (machine screw) size, but if it is referring to a Type AB (or Type B) screw, then it is a #6.
Usually the pitch will give it away, as it will be an odd size.
Example - 20 TPI = 1.27mm
16 TPI is listed as 1.58 or 1.59mm
14 TPI = 1.81
So a #6-20 Type AB sheet metal screw will typically be called a 3.5mm-1.27 size.
OK? So now you can go to your hardware store and get your "metric" sheet metal screw. Tell em' Gunter, er..John sent you _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"
