I am having my plumbing replaced in my house. I have sections of 4 inch abs black pipe laying around.
I was thinking to put a valve stem in one end, and or a garden sprayer pump in one end to make a solar shower.
I thought to
put baffles in to keep the water from sloshing around as bad but it's not necessary. Just fill it up and it won't splash. Drain some to pump it up.
The sun would heat it up, and a bike pump, co2 cartridge, or the garden sprayer pump could power it. Use a sprayer nozzle for a shower. Even the garden sprayer hose and handle would work.
Anyone think of why its not a decent idea? It could be hard mounted and the bags are harder to deal with aren't they?
Abs is tough, readily available, and easy to work with.

It's been done - go for it & report back!
PS: Curious if/how often you'd have to pressurize it while in use...??? _________________ 86 White Wolfsburg Westy Weekender

Household water pressure is 30-40psi. You could pump it up to that initially, but it will taper off as you draw water. Perhaps a schrader valve fitting on it and a small 12 volt compressor connected could keep it flowing during use. |

Been using it for over a year now, works great. I have heavy duty poptop struts which help. We also usually just go to one spot when we go camping.

I have the HD shocks too,but with 50 lbs of weight in the basket (plus weight of basket and bars) I can't pop the top anymore. getting old I guess. I bet it's great after a day of surfing to clean up a little before you drive home. |

I was thinking to try a garden tank sprayer as a pump backup. Garden sprayers seem to have a good pressure producing pump. Parts are readily available. A valve stem is cheap and easy to put in and would allow easy pressure from a bike pump.
Mounting it would be the hardest part, something neat. _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia 1.9 wbx

Heres what I did. 5' black abs 4" pipe with caps, 2000 ish Dodge radiator neck with 20lb cap, 1/4 pipe schader, brass 3/4 quick drain valve hose bib. A JB weld kit and about 20 min to drill the holes, mix the epoxy and put it all together. I ran contractors conduit channel ( thanks Mark) and some 4" strap clamps to hold it to my 3/4 irrigation pipe faux yakima bars.
You can see the black 2 gallon pump sprayer with shower handle sprayer mod next to it. The pump works well if you like to pump. The copied road shower 3.0 works well if you have the space. Both are black plastic and get as warm as to be expected with ambient temps and overcast days. Both have the ability to add boiling stove water to heat them up if needed. The pump shower is easier to add scalding water to it. The 3.0 version balences out the 12 foot black fiamma missle launcher and gives the Zombies something else to wonder about. |
