Registration for the 2013 Syncro Solstice @ http://SyncroSolstice.com/

This is our third year, and the event has and continues to evolve into an absolutely awesome community-driven experience. This year we had folks from Hawaii to South Dakota to Canada signed up before registration had (officially) opened.

The Samba DM (Dungeon Master) tends to get finicky when we post show photos here so I will just link to past year threads so you can catch up:

I think the welcome pack alone is worth the registration fee this year. We have some sweet technical gear from a couple of companies.

If you have questions throw them out here, and myself or some other Solstice Pioneer will have the answer, or make up something really good. Anyway, we'd love to see you this year. Hopefully the planning committee will fill in some of the gaps here.

In the meantime, I thought I would post up what I am working against for the Solstice this year. These are photos of the pan under the back seat, rust up above the tank. If you have experience with this, or some general peanut gallery stuff, I'm open for it. And yes, I can see my tank through the massive hole. Another friendly reminder about using under coating kids! Don't do it!
And stay in school.

That may be a cut-out (sawzall), inserting a longish, 4" tall piece of aluminum angle to sandwich with a like-sized piece of aluminum. Both gooped with some sort of silicone glue. Pot rivet them together. Have the holes for this already drilled so you don't push the piece on the tank side of the hole, out. I'd call it temporary but effective. POR15 or other rust treatment once you've got all the rust ground off the hole. You can make the hole any size/shape you want so that you can insert the piece of metal that will be outside, through the hole with a small, longish bolt on it to hang onto it, then goop it with the sealant/glue, pull it onto the hole, put the inside piece of metal in place, using that bolt to screw a nut onto it to draw the two together, gooping the inside piece as well, then pop rivet. So, there's my $0.02.....

Last call on formal Solstice registration! We have to provide an offering to the Vanagon gods, who are requiring a headcount for their blessings, particularly those seeking protection of their CVs, mtn bike rims, drive line, tan line, oil pan, tire sidewall and dignity. Late registrations are welcome and common, but no guarantees on event paraphernalia.

I registered last night. Can't wait, if I can just sort out the van not wanting to start on frosty mornings. That and trying to talk the wife into letting me get a GW bumper w/ hitch so I can bring the bike rack and my mtn bike.

Really bummed because we won't make it out this year. We have a big trip planed though and should be in the Black Hills area when everyone will be meeting in Moab. Have fun, be safe and post up them pics ASAP!

Can't wait! Many trips to Moab, never been in my own van to explore. Got my registration in at the last minute. I hope to bring my bike to do some trail riding, anyone put together a group ride?
This all sounds like one hell of a time. Thanks to everyone putting it together, insert pat on the back, looking forward to my first Syncro solstice experience. Now all I need is to get all four wheels back on the westy.

Cheers

-farfromwork- I hope your progressing well, best of luck to you.

Anyone up for a cara-VAN down from SLC on Wednesday the 15th? Was thinking of heading through the northern San Rafael Swell/desert to Wedge Overlook, down Buckhorn Wash Road, then I-70 -->191--->Lone Mesa.

Could be persuaded to get in a bit more dirt on the way down...

"You head downhill, having the time of your life, then you have to crank back uphill. If you're planning to visit the end of the mesa, it can be a very brutal proposition. There's plenty of sand and loose dirt to suck the life out of your legs. There's 1500 feet of absolute altitude change and 2200 feet of climbing for the long mesa ride."

Surprised

I'll wait for y'all down at the creek this time 'round. Wink

Speaking of creeks, is anyone planning a river run of any sort for this year?

I just got back from Baja tonight and have been away from the web just about the whole 2-1/2 month trip. I didn't see a link to register but will definitely be going.

I just found the link on the first line. Sorry!
