PostPosted: Wed Apr 03, 2013 3:04 am    Post subject: Please Help me to Identify this car Reply with quote

Hi,
Greetings from Istanbul . I am 46 years old individual collector and restorer of Porsche cars and long time enthusiast of Vw's.

I am reading the Fisher , Seume ,Muir and Wilson books and searching this forum for perfection.

I have to learn more but I found this car and seller has a limited time .

According the 1112274087 chasis it is from late 1970 and D0696389 Engine is the 34bhp 1200 cc.

I could not find any info for the both bumpers and fenders with air ducts for that year.

Should I consider this one? Is this anything special or the sellers miss match fittings?

Any help will be appreciated

Regards
Tamer

Hi, it's a 71 model 1200, the bumpers, fenders, tail lights etc are all original

the 1200s were built using older model parts to make them cheaper.
Looks to be nice and original except for the paint and seats.

A little bit about the base model 1200: (this is from 69, but it's similar to the 71)

It would be considered unique in the states because that model was never imported here. If you are looking for a good restoration candidate, check for rust and make sure it's manageable, otherwise I say sure, restore it back to it's original standard glory!

If you do buy it to restore, start a new thread and take a lot of pictures along the way. Good luck.

Buy it. It will look good next to your Porsches & will probably get more attention as just about everyone owned one...

I would like to thank all of these replies with precious information and courage.

The goverment had been subsidized the car industry 3 times in the past and too many of these beauties had been scrapped. Prices going high day by day

I will try to buy it , read more and will definately open an restoration topic. I am an slow weekend mechanic and the process will be slow.

I will pass on this 1967 type 117 with blown up 1300 F engine which looks a mutant imho.

according to babylon:

"Hocam wrong if I don't know, 71 be a model is required. THAT period was produced as a basic model and price available in stock to maintain low remaining . o earth, and that would be appropriate kupaya was using old model parts. As they begin to restore a vehicle appears to be still alive. "

not sure if its right or not but thats what i came up with !

hmm translators do not seem to be very good mcrosoft translator comes up with "Sir, you need to have the model wrong if I do not speak, 71. During that period in order to keep the price low and produced as the model for the basic stocks remaining. It may be appropriate to the qualifications for the old model parts and chassis had been made using. Seems like a worthy vehicle to Restore is still alive" I think it loses something in translation

Hi mate, if i am not wrong it should be a 1971 made. At that time they(the basic 1200 model)were were built using older model parts in order to make them cheaper. Early model parts, that fits to the chasis of 71were used (fenders bumpers etc.) I think its worth to spend money for restoration. Keep on Wink It still seems to be alive.

BTW sorry again.

Seller explained that the car has 6 volt unit including the battery .This confused my mind before reading this ;
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/archive/index.php/o-t--t-339342--.html
I have no experience with an 6 volts car but I think I will travel 434 miles to look at her.
