So for early Westy tents (privy style) does anyone have any insight into tent colors? Did the different colors correspond to different years or paint schemes? The 59 SO-22 Campingbox brochure specifies a red/white striped awning is available. Would be interesting to try to compile some data on people's original tents and what year/paint bus it came with.

I would think any privy tent with brown leather straps would be correct for a '59. I'm not sure how specific they were about tent colors, they probably grabbed whatever was on top of the pile and threw it in the bus. Wonder if the workers even looked inside the bags?

Good to know, I always wondered if they tried to color coordinate all the stuff: paint, fabric, curtains and tent. Some of them must have looked pretty garish with reds, plaids, blues and yellows all tossed into the mix. I also have noticed that some tents have notches for the roof racks and some (like mine) do not, what is the deal there? It is that a year thing or is it a lack of roof rack being ordered thing?

You mean the RHD tent? Trade you for one with notches Laughing

Good to hear they got the brackets back in

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks. Did they come with all tents or were they an extra accessory?

Here's a photo my friend emailed me (the bottom three I guess).

They were an extra option.

I've never seen poles like that before. Anyone else have a set?

Why two holes?

Westy tent front flap transversal poles, they are in three parts and are part of a very nice´62 turquoise so34 that years ago was sold from Canada to Germany and since is here in caring hands.

Cool to finally see pics of what those poles look like. Just curious did those pole sets come with extra (4 altogether) of the adjustable potty poles or were you supposed to have either or potty or front tent set up?

Nice grey / white tent BTW Very Happy You got one of our CDN's and we got one of yours.

You certainly have to have four of the adjustable potty poles (and the horizontal poles that slip into front flap edge) to set up the front flap as it is certainly not foreseen to keep the changing room sunken down Wink

Here three Westies (two SWR/BG so23´s and one grey SO34), all with front flap up:

Lited front flap offers a lot of additional room:

PS to vwboop: Wow, also a very nice grey and white tent you have there!

Grey and white tent on no-port-code '65 SO-42 that came with the four roof tent mounts. It also had the jack points drilled for the foyer tent.

I just came across a complete set of poles with original bag and tent stake bag with all the stakes and the two guide wires. I have four of the "toilet tent" poles, but what is odd is that there is no three piece cross piece for the front flap nor is there an extra set of guide wires. The set is all matching black paint poles. I assume that a complete set would have come with the extra pair of guide wires, extra stakes to support the guide wires and the three piece pole. I am toying with the idea of fabricating a three piece pole so I can set up the flap. Anyone have the dimensions for the three poles?
