The best time to eat fish is when your store receive the truckload!

Around here, if a fish has to ride on a truck then it isn't fresh. Wink

We just got home from the San Diego Meet. There was a good turnout today. Some new faces and some faces that never get old. Lady Shadetree and I brought the little Shadetwig with us. The burden is upon us as her Grandparents to properly expose her to the Vanagon Life. We are up to the task. She seemed to enjoy herself as there were several toddlers to meet, donuts to eat, and squirrels to watch scampering around (the 4 leg kind).

We had the excitement of checking out a tencentlife motor and exhaust recently installed in Brian’s Syncro Westy. I had the privilege of driving his Syncro while crazyvwvanman monitored the ECU Diagnostic Tool. What a sweet sounding ride. Throttle response was snappy. I was in lust. The test drive was way too short. I should have driven around the state instead of around the block.

Arriving around 10:30AM there were quite a few already here.

It seemed like we blinked and it was 2:00PM already. If you planned on coming, you missed it this month. But we'll all get together again. Stop by and get in the picture next time.

I had to miss it too sadly. Last week a brake line ruptured, and I'm waiting for some cookies so that I can fix it. The pedal went to the floor coming down toward the shores from UCSD, which made for an exciting couple of minutes. Luckily I could get it into second and then first, and there was enough residual braking in the fronts / e-brake to get it stopped safely. I had a heart attack. The van was completely fine with it.

Scary though. I'd say it's worth everyone giving their brake lines a good shake followed by a slow drive somewhere flat. Mine split because it was rusted and got moved when I replaced my power steering lines which had rusted through about a week earlier. I figure the next thing to go will be the frame Laughing

Thanks! I've got everything but the T. It was the dreaded passenger rear that ruptured, and getting up there above the transmission mount is a pain. I'm just moving the T forward to the frame rail and running lines from there, but I couldn't find a T locally within biking distance and had to go to the interwebs. Thanks very much though, you guys are too kind. See you at the next one!

It was a GREAT turn out!

The next meet I propose is at the VW Classic - back row as usual in two months. See PS below.

Sorry I could not say hi go all, the wife was worried about something, making me come back early. She later apologized for making a big deal of nothing. My mind was like "wow, gee, no big deal, but I hope she sees the light more often, eh?"

It truly was a nice to see so many vans and everybody....(in that order Smile Smile Smile )

PS: Ya, I know the Classic is not in SD but it is just past the border...OK?

If we had all known, we could have met at your Syncro and collectively fixed it. I've had the brakes fail 100% in traffic in my old '61 Kombi. Pucker factor is very high. In my case it was a rubber hose failure. Glad to hear you were able to manage to get it stopped. Amazing how much action you can pack into a couple of seconds when your motivated.

We missed ya Todd. Usually you roll up in your parts chaser if the LHS-GL isn't functional.

That sounds good to me. I've missed the last two VW Classics. The wife and I have a few camping trips planned so we wouldn't be able to come back down until the middle of May anyway.

A little late on the photos but here are some. I think I have a photo somewhere of r39o smiling but I must be mistaken. I'll see if I can find it. Very Happy

Fun time again and nice to see new faces each time. Always sorry some couldn't make it. There's a photo of a VR6 in one of the photos. A military guy and his wife who are heading back up to Alaska soon.

That's Sue's van and a very nice one at that. I used to work with her and before I was in to vans she gave me a ride in it and when I asked her about value she estimated about $18k, in 2003. I doubted that seriously...Wish I had bought it from her.

June OC meetup is Great! BUT ITS IN JUNE!!!
How does a meetup in may sound?
some people are doing Syncro Solstice in Moab the weekend of the 19th...

We would suggest the weekend before --- May 11/12 Smile

we can also spice it up a bit and take it 5 miles south to the beach at DeAnza cove, Mission Bay, where there is Grass to sit on, tables and shade under trees, and plenty of parking, and a play ground for the little ones.... we can pull out some BBQ, or just have munchies like last time.... Thanks to all who brought great munchies to share:)

SO, WHO IS IN ????

We would love to see you ALL!!!
