Thought Al (Hellabro) might want to check in with us and see how we're all doing... you know, how all our bus projects are going. Hi Al, miss you man! Tipping some Merlot to you. Thanks for the great thread and memories.
Pretty sure this is Red Barn 2007

Great work. Anyone curious to see the one of the driest, most straight and original 63 DD WT Panels looks like... you're looking at it. This bus is absolutely sick! Zero rot in any corner of the cargo floor, never smashed, lived seemingly it's whole life in Arizona. Damn I wish there were more of these. Amazing bus... the best panel I've ever seen... even better than my all-original Atlas Motors 58 crank-start Dove Blue grocery delivery Panel.
"Yugos of the transporter line" ?? You're on crack man! When you can play ping pong through the center of your bus at a show... you'll know. This thing is where it's at! |

Ha thanks Pete and kombi, I love this bus. I last saw Al at Kelley Park in 06 or 07 myself. A true gentleman in our hobby! |

Glad to say I'm finally getting some time in on the bus. It's been sitting over at Skinner Classics for a couple months. Rebuilt all four wheel cylinders and replaced the soft lines on the front end. All the shoes were new, so I was happy to see that. My style of rebuilding MY brakes: re-use everything not obviously compromised and have had continuous excellent results. Honed all cylinders to a high polish, cleaned and inspected the piston seals then re-installed them. Was successful at the dicey job of separating the hard line from the soft line (using heat) and caused no damage. Planning on attacking the rear soft lines and brakes tomorrow. How does it feel NOT working around dirt, brush and critters?

Good question! I do find the hospital-type settings a little high-stress, but there are some benefits, like access to 150psi air, professional auto shop tools, helpful dudes, pizza -delivered- along with minimized risk of animal attack.
I didn't comment on the work Robert Skinner has done pulling the large dents out of the nose along with the brutal job of exposing Dove Blue under five layers of paint. The bus was hit very hard in the nose back in the sixties and it took a gased-on and leaded replacement nose without inner structure repairs. The body-work challenges on the bus put it squarely where it should be: in the hands of a professional. Going back over today to tackle the rear brakes. |

Now I guess I have to do the rest. _________________

Bought a '65 wiper switch to fit the '65 dash in my '67 bus. Now playing with wiring diagrams to sort what goes where (and yes, I do plan on losing the high speed setting on the wiper motor. I never used it anyway.). _________________ 9th Owner of a 1971 Tintop Westy

Got to take my 2 year old son to Sonic in the single cab today. He was giggling for most of the ride. I think he might be hooked.

I spent Saturday sanding the wood slats Sunday laying down 3 or 4 coats of Marine varnish(hope it lasts longer than the other varnish I've used for roofracks ) and last night after work I put the hoops up. I bought them from a guy in NC. the slats were bowed in pretty good so I installed them upside down in hopes they may straiten or at least bow back. Now I have to find a laundry mat to wash canvas.. my wife caught me trying to sneak it into our washer lol
almost forgot center piece

Two words concerning washing your canvas-
Kiddie Pool
It works great. And after you are done, make SURE that you install the canvas on the hoops to dry. Otherwise, it will shrink just enough to be a sumbich to get back on. Of course ,that only applies if it is an original. The new ones by Tom Buese (Busware) sometimes could benefit from a little shrinkage. Not that they are baggy or anything. They will fit better if washed and reinstalled to dry.
Or you could wash the canvas right on the hoops. I did that on my DC. I took the hole shootin' match off so I could reach the top and washed it under a tree on my front yard. A stiff brush and lots of sudsy water works wonders. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon
