Anticipating removal of some spring plates from a beetle IRS torsion. I've done this before on my built swingaxle and have a system for it but my problem with this one is it's just the rear torsion and horns sitting on saw horses getting prepped to be welded into rail frame. I searched and haven't found anyone doing this operation on a torsion that's not in a car where you can use jacks or in my case ratchet straps to take some pressure off the plate before letting her loose.

I more concerned about how violent this thing is going to jump on me when I'm in there prying. Perhaps I can strap the torsion to the tailgate of my pickup to try to absorb some of this force? I dunno

Does anyone have any suggestions on a safe way to do this? I'm all ears... might not be after trying this tho lol

I did this when my pan was on saw horses. unbolted the trailing arms, kept my self out of the way, and pried and pounded away.

I have a feeling that'll be me tonight. Just hoping someone had some ingenius way of doing this. I always like to ask these 'dumb' questions before I ruin things or myself.
thanks
