Actually I didn't actually buy it- I traded a nice Rabbit for it! I got sick of timewasters and lowballers while trying to sell it, and the guy who bought my first Rabbit picked up this Bus cheap. He was interested in trading, so I went for it Twisted Evil It's a solid BC Bus, and the engine was rebuilt in 2002 right before the owner drove it across to Ontario. It then sat 2 years, and seems to only need some brake work and a tune-up. (although it's been running really good since it's been warmer than 5 degrees lately Cool ). The interior is in nice shape, I just need to find a sink unit and a few new cushions or material for the bed. Even the seats are nice under the covers. All in all a solid complete running Westy, not a show winner but perfect for a daily driver. If someone had told me a year ago that I'd have a camper, I wouldn't believe it. Laughing I plan on possibly taking this around the country this summer, after I've "broke it in" for a while locally. Heres the pics I took before my camera died, the trade is going down Friday Cool

Someone cut down the cabinet and it looks OK. I might finish what they started for better visibility, and space to hang stuff.

Why?? I guess I'll have to track down the problem and replace whats missing.

I think I'm going to have fun with this Bus Very Happy

I just picked up a 70 Westy as well! Im gonna get it running/looking all sweet. It's going to go to my brother who lives in Southern Calif.. He's been looking for a while and I happen to see this one up in Berekley of all Vw places! It has that Berekley touch with an external oil cooler mounted on the side. Al

I know where a 71 riviera is that has been sitting for several years. OG red, straight, complete, but for right now the old guy wants to hang on to it. I'm just waiting for the right time to pounce. Twisted Evil

That patch on the side of your bus is where the electrical hook-up box goes for the extension chord. Al

Yeah, I don't know why they put that patch over it though. I'll see how much of that wiring is still intact when I get it home. Worse case scenario, how complicated is that section of wiring if I have to replace it? Cool

Congrats on your trade!

I kinda miss my Wabbits... I had a pair of 84 GTIs. One silver and one white.

I sold one and gave the other to a church because they wanted a car to refurb and give to a poor family that was a member of that church.

I wish I had kept the silver one. Sad That thing with its bad front suspension did over 100 on I15. I have the ticket to prove it! But a wabbit with a bad suspension at 100mph is NOT for the timid!

If you know anything about home electrical its easy. Its your basic 110 V home outlet. If you can't find anything original I bet any RV dealer would have what you need.

I also had an '84 GTI, silver with the recarro buckets and the sunroof. Was a nice little car with well over 200,000 miles on it and I was offered more money, so I sold it. I think rabbit/ golf is one of VeeDubs best ideas!

That's a nice find on a westy!

Looks nice! Congratulations!

I only have one recommendation, and this is just an opinion (advance search forums for more), but I'd suggust getting rid of the 009 distrubutor presently on the bus, and using one of the vacuum advancing types! It was only a matter of time before someone else says the same thing, but maybe with better explanation! Again, search past forums on this subject if you're interested in learning more! Best of luck, enjoy!

Gratefully,

Ditto on the distributor.
Hope you get the heater boxes hooked up to feed your defroster.
You know that

Nice looking bus.

i have had my 70 for years and love it. i didnt get it dialed in perfect and running great til i shit canned the 09 dizzy. stock vacum advance works perfect for me. is that a push button ignition i see. if you got a pretty rust free bus up north you have a great starting point for a good bus.

Nice bus.

It looks like someone has modified your closet a little. Could you take some close pics? I'm wondering what they were up to.

Regarding the hookup, here two hookups that Potts added. http://www.pottsfamily.ca/westfakia/110Vpower You'll need something similar. (He has two because one allows him to provide power to his trailer. )

Thanks for the replys Cool I didn't know about the distributor, I'll probably replace it as I get more into it. The previous owner replaced heater cables in '99, so I'm guessing the system is still intact and just needs hooking up. The cabinet was just cut down, with some extra hooks added in it's place. I'm going to cut down the door to better match it, and properly "edge" the wood. I'll take some better pictures when it comes home. There is a push button ignition, and the horn is that big black button Laughing All things on the list to eventually fix and replace. A local Samba member notified me of his '71 Westy in a junkyard near me, so I'll try and scavenge the wiring from that if it's still there. Twisted Evil
