Finally getting around to replacing the hack of an ignition switch installed by the PO on my 71 Westy:

Managed to source replacement parts (housing, lock and ignition starter-switch)

but something doesn't seem right with the lock barrel within the cylinder.

Everything lines up when the key is in the off position, but when the key is turned clockwise, the barrel recesses about 5mm into the cylinder:

Key off:

You should be able to make out the recess in the above two photos.

I'm assuming this is not normal, but don't really have anything to compare it to. Thoughts/comments would be welcomed.

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, my original switch on my '71 did that same thing in the start position.

Thanks, Tom. Everything works fine, and it looks SO much better than the original hack job - just wasn't sure if that's how it's supposed to operate.

If it didn't recess like that, then simething is wrong. Rock on wit it, oh and now you can re key the entire bus to that ignition key. Cool
