|
|
The PO lowered my '65 bus and I want to raise it back up to stock height. It still has the RGB trans-axle so I think the majority of work is going to be in the front. The beam is stock but the spindles were "dropped" whatever that means. My question is...can I use my existing spindles and return them to stock?
Is that a complicated job? Can anyone point me to some resources or threads that give some details of what I need to do? Maybe a new parts list?
Thanks a ton! |

No, you will have to remove the dropped spindles and replace with a pair of original spindles.
You'll more than likely come out money ahead as dropped spindles are worth more than stock. See if you can find out who made the dropped spindles. |

Thanks. I was afraid of that...so once they have been dropped they cannot be returned to stock...that sucks. Not sure who did it...it looks like a DIY job to be honest. but I don't exactly know what I'm looking at either.
OK, time to scour the classified ads for some stock spindles. |

Post in the lowered thread for a trade + cash if yours are good as they are more $$$ than stock spindles. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

I just replaced my stock spindles on my '65, and during the search for some cores to send in and avoid a core charge, I ran across a set of brand new (rebuilt) drop spindles from Wolfgang. Couldn't even use 'em for cores for stock replacements, but I was able to sell them for $150. (The money is going to the local guy that gave them to me.). |

Often they can be put back to stock height, it just depends on how they were done. It would be easier to sell or trade them to someone who wants their bus lowered instead. |

Most of the time they can be put back to stock. Just depends on who/how they were flipped/dropped. Lots of hacks out there than ever before.
I do several sets a year.
They come into the shop like this...
....and leave like this....
Sometimes you can find someone to swap spindles, but then you can get stuck with a stock set that needs rebuilt or has damaged/missing link pin parts. Best to do the swap in person, so you know what you're getting. _________________ Aaron D. Badertscher

Thanks for the input everyone...looks like there's a few folks interested in trading for stock spindles. And thanks for the advice Aaron, will definitely be careful as to what I trade for. |

what about the "reversing" of the tie rod cone? usually these gets the cone enlarged on the other side to install the bigger diameter later tierod.
maybe they get a straight hole and then an adapter with intrnal cone is fitted? |
