Jeffery, are you running the shocks and sway bar with your set up?

Guess I'm an idiot with bald tires...

6" narrowed with dropped spindles and disc brakes that apparently need to be pumped 3 to 4 times to stop.

Why did brakes even come in to the topic?
Nice car I have a similar look on mine. Just no disk brakes

Jeffrey, would you happen to have a snap shot of the beam installed in the car? It just seems that my towers just about butt up against the car that I don't see how the beam fits with the towers. Taking an 1" on each side seems to me that the towers would interfere with the body. maybe a pic with one of the front wheels removed would be ideal! Very Happy

I don't think you can compare your beam with Jeffrey's. I think he has a BJ beam and they have angled shock towers which allow for more clearance. Your beam is a k/l beam and the towers are straight up. I had to put custom towers on mine. Take a look at this ad for a 2" beam and you'll see this it has modified towers. http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC%2DC10%2D4201

I cut my towers off and used something like these

My bus has no shocks....yet. just got it on the road . My son and I have been tooling it around and its felt great .then going down a back street we hit some long whoops on the road going a liitle too fast and there was nothing i could do. It buck up and down smacking both bumpers on the ground befor i could get it slowed down. WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROB WITH SHOCKS. do you need them? No. But you will run into somthing when youll say damn , wished i had shocks . The 2" beam will look nice and you can have shocks. Simple and no worries. Yea , and dont weld a sway bar together. Thats stupid. It can be re bent

This is where a shockless beam gets weird. When the weight unloads off the bushings in the front end, there is no dampening. Then, the more weight that comes down, the stiffer it gets from both bushing dampening and the increasing torsion rate. While minimal in a bug, im sure on a bus it is quite a feeling.

I wouldn't go shockles in a bus. Too much weight no matter what bushings you run.

Great point guys. I am picking up my lowered spindles tomorrow and install them to see how much gap that reduces. I will try to post some before and after pics with just the spindle sway, then pick a narrowed beam, most likely, a 2" narrowed beam so I can use my shocks and sway bar. I've also heard of people mounting the sway bar upside down for clearance. is this true?

4in narrow beam no shocks on front drives great a bit loose in front but the wobble will happen if you get toe in from the rear. I still need to put notched extended spring plates on it.

Sorry for not responding earlier to your question about the rear of my 58. I wish I could give you an accurate answer I have two adjustments on mine. I have adjustable spring plates on it and then I also have two center adjusters on the torsions. I set the plates at 0* then I messed with all the adjustments to get it to sit where I wanted it to. Plus I have big sway-a-way torsions in the back 28mm if I remember correctly. I would say 2 notches with new torsions would get you there. When I set my plates I had all the adjustments all the way up and went from there.

Thanks for all the compliments on it, one day I'll get it finished. Still an active project I just rarely get the opportunity to work on it so it's slow going. But I figure it takes time to do everything the way I want and I held nothing back on this car. Very Happy
