Thanks guys...been driving it all day today and it's absolutely great! Sooooo much fun It drives a lot nicer now with the 2.5 installed, takes off nice and smooth and runs through the gears nicely without feeling like it's laboring to do it. Climbing hills is a breeze now...with enough power to actually accelerate up hill instead of having to down shift like crazy. The computer is re-learning it's throttle positions etc, the surge is gone now and it idles smooth as butter . Also hooked up the purge line from the top of the charcoal canister to the port on the manifold, no more smelling fumes from the open canister now.
First up today I cleaned the engine bay and wiped down the exhaust. Topped the coolant off to get it ready to drive again. I noticed each time I take the pressure cap off the surge tank it tightens up in a slightly different position that it was before, slightly tighter. It just didn't feel like it was solid and sure enough...pop. The cap will get tight then pop loose and get tight again. Now I'm sure this is where the coolant was coming from yesterday.
I was warned about the quality of this tank/cap by a couple other people before I installed it that had the same tanks fail. The plastic on the tank is thin and feels cheap compared to the OEM unit. Sooooo I decided to remove the new tank and install my solid but stained OEM tank till I can find a good quality new tank to replace it with.
While we were out driving today we stopped by the original owners house, Ann thought it looked great We took a photo with her while we were there,
I think I will adjust the front shocks down a bit tomorrow, looking forward to getting more "test" miles on it New fridge and propex install coming soon.

Great job Hodakaguy!
I can't wait to see your ride in person.
I am planning to be in NV again mid June doing a giant loop. 1300 miles this year. The furthest out in the desert my EV will be is parked at Denio Junction. When are you getting down there? |

Very big congratulations on a job well done!
I have the front RMW bumper and been thinking of adding the rear. How much do you think it weighs? Sure looks good! _________________ Currently:

More test miles today.
Went to a friends house last night and drove home in the dark, the new headlights are amazing compared to the stock square lights. They are really bright and throw a lot of usable light, they will really be a plus out on the open back roads. The HID lights on the front bar and pretty sweet as well, typical HID they really light up the night!
Rolled to the Ihop first thing this am.
Stopped and purged, filled and leak checked the new propane tank. All good, no leaks
Up to a couple hundred miles now and everything is going great so far. Played with the adjustment on the front shocks a little, brought the front end down to 20.250", about as low as you can go without getting interference between the shock and the axle under hard bumps. I'll roll with it like this for a while, may end up swapping out the front springs and cranking up the shock higher to get my ride height so I can level out the bus....we'll see.
Next weekend I hope to tackle the truck fridge and Propex (propane heater) install. Going to be nice not having to worry about food spoiling in the fridge and being able to stay toasty warm at night. I'll post updates as they happen.

Awesome to see you racking up some miles on a thorough build. All the work is worth it in the end.
Good job |

Getting ready to install the truck fridge. The Truck fridge is a modern fridge with a modern compressor that will actually keep food cold! The original fridge is marginal at best. The truck fridge will give slightly more capacity than the OEM fridge and is shorter as well...allowing storage, electronics mounting etc under the fridge.
First up...change the color of the fridge. The fridge comes only in black, I decided to change the color to grey to match the rest of the interior and make a more "factory" looking install.
A couple pics of the fridge as it comes from the factory.
A red Scotch Brite Pad is used to scuff all the plastic and metal painted surfaces so the new paint will adhere properly. Here you can see the difference between the scuffed and non-scuffed plastic.
Everything is scuffed, masked, cleaned and ready to paint.
Here's the paint that I used. It's SEM plastic paint, this paint remains flexible and adheres well to plastic.
SEM 15183 matches the factory grey trim color almost perfectly.
SEM 13023 is a low luster clear that will make the grey the same sheen as the factory rubber trim.
SEM 38353 is a cleaner that you use to clean/prep the plastic before painting. It's formulated to not melt/hurt that plastic.
I also used a Tack Cloth to wipe down the surfaces before painting to eliminate any lint pieces.
And Painted.
I also have matching laminate for the lighter grey that I will be installing in the fridge door.
A couple close ups
