That's a Bummer. Confused It won't affect the value of the real stuff as much as you think though ie. Hazet tool kits and Rosenthal bud vases. It's just too bad that someone always has to feel that they need to fill a void in the market. The Repos never last and eventually the true items retain their value and in some cases, even go up. Wink

Man, I hope your right. Back in 96 when I first got my Alberts (thanks to Mark Depew) I was asked by a gentleman if he could use it to make some copies. I told him "no" I wanted to be the first to break out with it. Even after my 55 sedan was featured on the cover of VolksWorld with it, the VW community was still so unaware of the mirror. It was only after Hot VWs featured the mirror as a "rarest of the rare" candidate did it finally gain some popularity. Now, the darn mirrors are everywhere Sad But it'll always be Tony Moore's former 55 vert that sparked my interest in getting one. And that car had the mirror back in 86!

Burton Burton (Casablanca Fan Co) was building a collection of VWs and purchased Tony's 55 waaay back in the late 80s. Then I never saw it again.

Yep, the left hand side. His car was featured back in the July 1986 issue of Hot VWs with porn star Ginger Lynn gracing the feature. Mmmmmmm

nothing against randy, but repops just aren't as good as the originals. if the originals are out of existence, then i can see resorting to using repops, but copies just never seem to match the quality of the originals. repop 4.5's are out, and the quality is substandard. we'll see how the repop alberts compare to the originals. the copy early deep 6's are even worse! the repop Hazet tool kits are another example, not close to the quality of the originals. the list just goes on and on.

regardless, i prefer to have the REAL deal, like my albert sets, original hirschmann center mount antenna, pair of 4.5 x 15 fuchs, early deep 6 fuchs. but if repops are the only way you can afford these items, then so be it. god knows i have sacrificed to get these original parts, and it sure hurt the wallet when i bought them.

It seems like all of the old show cars are going to Japan. Sad I'd love to see some pictures of that car.

That's because the darn Yen is so strong against the US dollar. As for pics, grab the July 1986 issue of Hot VWs.

I understand that everybody who has original Alberts is not happy, because the mirrors will become "more common" now. But c´mon, the set of original Alberts is around 700+. I love the look of them but can´t spend thee money, so I´l happily pay 200 USD for the copies.

They are common you just have to know where to look. Albert's told me they where designed for the asian market. where most of them went. I got my set from a friend living in Jekarta, Indoneasia. Certain products where designed for different regions. The beetle was sold world wide, VW made their product versitile for the different markets.

think you were incorrect in stating those with REAL alberts are unhappy. i'm even more happy, because the fakes never measure up to the originals. i am more than happy to have my 4 original sets.

here are just some of the items that were repopped, but none were close to the real thing: Hazet tool box, 4.5" fuchs, roof rack, flat 4 empi steering wheel, etc.
