Nice looking buggy, but WOW!!!
$ 35,000.00 should buy a lot more than what is there. No cage, no big engine, no coated header, no special brakes, awkward looking seats, painted Craiger SS rims, drums brakes, baja style cheap rear bumper, funky windscreen.
Should be more like $ 8 to $ 9 K

Hows this... $32,500.00
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/3822747107.html
and if you read the brief description of this "rare" buggy--it's $35k OBO..
Just passing along the good deals..
(oops--just noticed this is the same rant/whine from above..) I was kind enough to send the fella an email..
me: It may not be my place to say--or it may be..But Your price for the Buggy is completely inordinate..and if you want to be better informed as to values--thesamba.com is a VW specific website that will show QUALITY VW's and you may better find your price is about 3-4 times what you can realistically expect to ask for your bug--
No insults intended--
him: So what do u think it's worth?
me: I know the value of the work that may have been placed into the body-paint, etc.. But your Buggy won't sell for more than $6-8k on the high end. The buggy is not built with a "period" appearance but rather "custom" to your liking--your "market" has been severely minimized. There is too much high-end parts and build styles that are WAY above and beyond your buggy which has only a nice paint job and aftermarket seats..aside from the paint--you've got a "regular" buggy that anyone can build if they have a VW to donate for the pan-suspension-engine-
I'm just bring honest as a VW enthusiast myself--case in point--
I've got over $23,000 in receipts in my '62 Bug--and I built it without any value on my time--
him: You don't see many like this. I easily think I can get 20 grande for it in California. Or from someone in Illinois. Are you saying just the paint is the only nice thing on it?
me: I would strongly encourage you to look around at others on that website I referenced..your $20k expectation is still FAR beyond a realistic expectation--real Meyers Manx buggies won't catch that type of money--if you know what a Manx is--then you'll know that they are the only ones with real "value"--that along with true off-road purpose-built tube framed chassis-
And take this as you may--your buggy is nothing special as its "standard" with stock parts obtainable anywhere.
I assume you built this buggy?
him: Yes we did.
me: You'll never get more than $10k for it--and I believe THAT price is way beyond reality..
Best of luck to you-
him: Thanks. Il let you know when I sell it for 20k
me: Hahaha--I'll be sure to keep my phone on silent when you email me at night in THAT dream
I couldn't help myself--had to send the last message..[/b] _________________ '62 VW Bug Sedan (Ruby Red)

This post is more about the quality of new parts I recently received.
In the quest ot build a 1600 SP for my coast to coast monocoque run in July, I bought a set of new E+PI connecting rods. At first look, they were quite impressive and nicely done.
I weighed them and they were all within 2 grams of each other. NICE.
Then I took the nuts off. BAD
One nut was actually threaded at an angle.
That is when I started looking at them closely. As I threaded the nuts down onto the cap bolts, I noticed that the lands on the main portion of the rods was not parallel to the base of the rod. This machined surface which should have been parallel was at a slight angle causing the nut to sit unevenly on the rod. You could never get any decent torque setting on this.
All 4 rods were this way.
I am contacting the supplier tomorrow to see what I can work out.
I opted for these new rods thinking that at least these will be fresh but I believe I am going to go back to some remanned rods.
Bummer. |

hello all- first let me say thank you for letting a new guy hang around here and learn something. I have just recently figured out that i need a dune buggy in my collection. I am having a problem. As i figured you do not buy a dune buggy from down the street ( i read the post and know that many have....) when you live in the North East ( Rochester NY). So i have been looking around Craigslist and have found a couple that are close enough to me to trailer up and make it happen. When i contact these folks i tell them that i am a serious buyer, $$ in hand if its the right car and maybe mention my other cars and mention i would arrive with a trailer so they know that i am serious and real. Last thing i want to do is waste anyones or my own time. I am not inquiring about ones wayyyy out of my price range as some kind of pipe dream but realistic cars that are in my budget so i can make a sound decision/purchase and enjoy it.
I am 0 for 3 as far as anyone contacting me back?
just have to keep trying i guess
oh well- this is by no means a rant or anything just an observation and a way to introduce myself
thanks everyone!!!!

My personal experience with Craigslist has been poor. In both selling and trying to buy. I do not know if emails do not get through or what happens, but I have only gotten through to two sellers in about 15 attempts to get a hold of anyone I have inquired about items listed on CL.
I put the same item on this site or ebay, and bam, contact happens. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class
