They're not that hard to make, a couple hours and a few metal working tools. If you're capable of removing your tank, you should be capable of reproducing the straps. Have fun.

Remember to consider SS when reproducing the straps. _________________ '87 Syncro Weekender |

there seem to be multiple variations on a theme with these from german vendors. ill prolly just wait for the straps to be available in the states again, as it would be much easier to deal with if any issues should arise _________________ Reference Automotive: NW Washingtons Vanagon Specialist. I hear ya on that, but there comes a point when the time balances with the money and its worth it to buy. When you have an excess of time doing everything yourself is fine, when dropping the tank is going to take a bunch on your limited time already, its nice not to have to spend some of it on something that you can just bolt on.
Its an age old problem with some sort of intercept between two lines on a graph thats often hard to determine ahead of time. _________________ '91 Carat Westy

I've been there so many times, the line does get blurred, I'm afraid. I only just recently started farming out my transmission rebuilding, instead of doing it myself. He only does transmissions and it always saves me time and money, Plus I can work on what I like to work on, thus make more money.
You're right, though...

Is there really a market for used Syncro fuel tank straps?
I have a few sets that unbolted and were removed still in good shape.
Off to the classifieds I guess.
I also have a few sets of SS straps, brand new.
Not for sale, but I will offer them as templates to have more made here in the US if anyone wants to head up such a venture.
Pmail please. |

Is it possible to replace the straps without removing the tank?
Some guys here have made them out of zinc coated steel that is available as house grounding strap.
Heavy duty and cheap.
The yearly inspection here is going to get me on those straps as they are really rusted. No leaks in the tank and fuel gauge OK. |

Provided you can remove them and the fasteners...you can bolt the lower and hook the upper with the tank in place.
The attachment points on the bulkhead are always rusted and can need fabricating if badly rusted. |
