Hi
My meccano build is progressing. I receive the car stripped down and I am slowly getting parts of it completed.
Naturally I have parts that Ihave no clue where they are from or where they go or even what they are.
1. I know these are air delectors. However, I have searched online and books, I cannot figure out where exactly these pieces go.
2. I have these two pieces of tin. They are thin and sharp. I placed them next to 1/2" and 13mm spanners for size. Any ideas? what/why/etc
thanks folks

first pic, those tins are by the crank pulley tin. one on each side, they close the gap between the exhaust pipe on cylinder 2/4 and the crank pulley.
2nd pic, those are installed in the bottom of each cylinder head, where the thermostat rod would go through. _________________ These days people like me are hard to find- we don't give a damn what you think, about what we think. - JR

I have a further question on the "thermostat" tin. I am not clear looking at the engine (heads) where it is to go, but I will go and look online and in my books now that I know what it is. My question is, can this be put in place at this point - I am just adding the tin to the motor right now, no heat exchangers are on yet, so I can get to both sides of the head. I am concerned it will be like that other tin that has to go on before the heads because it is behind the push rod tubes.
I see where the air defledtors go now. |

they tap the little tabs up between the fins, there easy to fit & install,I like to slightly flaten the tangs/tabs a little. you can also make them out of aluminum as not all heads are the same in that aera. |

You can get those little tins installed with the pushrod tubes in place but it's easier/better to do before that. If you have or intend to have a thermostat be watchful that the cutout in those tins allows the thermostat operating rod to go through without interference. If one interferes with the rod you can remove and flip it, but be careful of the small mounting tabs - bend them too much and they'll break. _________________ '78 Biegephalia |

Does anyone have an image showing these installed? I'm not sure I ever saw how and where they fit!

They fit under the head between the cylinders.

Does anyone have the dimensions of this item so I can fabricate my own.
Length, width and tab sizing and spacing.
Thanks

the large square(no tabs) is roughly 1-3/4 inches in length(using the above picture as a template) and 1-1/2 inches tall
the tabs are roughly 1/8in wide and extend out roughly 1/4in; they are roughly 3/4in apart inside measurement, and roughly a 1/4in from the bottom or top of the piece
the notch is roughly 3/8in wide(when measured perpendicular to the notch...the diameter of the hole would be 3/8in), the notch starts an 1/8 in from the edge of the large square
top of notch to bottom of piece is roughly 9/16th of an inch
I believe someone had it overlayed on 1/4" graph paper, but I couldn't find it _________________ My 1975 Beetle Build Updated 8-21-12
