Hi everyone,
I have a bit of an odd-ball question. Along with my air cooled Volkswagen passion, I also have a passion for old Toyota Land Cruisers. I currently own a 1987 FJ-60, with a somewhat rusty hood.
I found a totally rust free hood near my home, but the hood has some dings, and one larger crease. The price of the hood was only $50.00, so I figured it is worth a shot.
Can the dents be removed with traditional hammer and dolly methods? I know the metal on a hood is thinner, but can it be worked back into shape? I want to try out my new Martin hammer and dolly set. If so, what is the best hammer and dolly to use in this application?
Also can filler be used on the hood, or will filler crack? I am not talking about a large amount of filler, just a skim coat (hopefully!)
Thank you,
Zack
PS: Sorry about a Land Cruiser question on this forum, but you guys are great with auto body questions. _________________ 1972 Coupe |

Any metal panel can be dollied back into shape. It will just take time. You might also try a shrinking disc on the high spots, I've been amazed by the results, especially on the creases. |

For 50 bucks it's certainly worth a try! I tend to use a product called all metal rather than bondo, seems to hold up a little better on parts that would normally see more vibration and flexing. It's a pain in the butt to sand though, gotta be quick! _________________ 69 bug 1600sp buckpack ceramic header w mondo muffler, riviera wheels, 185/65 front 205/70 rear, dual baby webers, big stereo in the works.
