My opologies to all who came from out of state cos we are not known here in Cali to have shows like this at all. Don`t want you all to leave thinking this is how it always goes down cos it`s not!

Don't forget the Treffen in September. That's a real show with real cars.

Yeah...really bummed out about the dash plaques and participant lanyards. The lady handing out the cards at the registration table said the cards guaranteed you one of each. Nope.

There were about 700 registered I think. I don't really care about awards...just the little mementos that commemorate the occasion. This was my first Classic and it will be a while before I get to another (moving to Ohio this summer). Don't get me wrong...I had a blast! The whole weekend was immensely enjoyable! I met a lot of great people and got some great deals...it just sucks to think that some people took two or more dash plaques just to sell them at future Classic's at whopping prices.

Anyways...loved the event! Can't wait until next time.

Since everyone else is giving their opinion I thought I would share too Cool
I really enjoy going to the O.C.T.O. shows even though there are no awards I enjoy hanging out with VW friend & checking out the VWs. I DO NOT miss voting or waiting for awards to be called. Maybe if the Classic had no awards at all they could lower the entry fee to 10$ Very Happy wouldn't that be nice! Then we could all go home at 2 when it gets TOO HOT! IMO there are just TOO MANY CARS Shocked to make awards anything but ridiculous! PS Thank you to all of those out there who take the time & energy to put on all of these VW shows!! I do not envy you the work & responsibility Confused ok I will step down of of my soap box now Embarassed Thanks For listening Wink

This was my first trip to the Classic and I really enjoyed it. From the day we checked into the hotel until the day we left , it was a great time. We will be back next year.

As always this show was great. I live a couple hours away so I get to enjoy the drive in my Vw. This show is one of the high lights of the year for me. I get to see old friends and meet new people from across the country and around the world. It's also great to see all top shelf cars that get debuted for the first time and my favorite part hearing the you added a patina class. It's nice to see someone adding new classes for the popular trends that are going on.

The problems "which is going to sound like a broken record" are there needed to more dash plaques and a better way to distribute them. As it is anyone can go up and register a car they didn't even have and collect a plaque which I'm shore some did. The tickets for plaques should have been given at the entry gate to those that drove in in a vw. One car one ticket. And second no crabs. Lol i would think the freak show would consist of vehicles that can be driven ( or flown) and not yard art. It was impressive for what it was. Art not a freak.

All and all this is one of the greatest shows around and I had a great time. Keep up the good work. My friends and I had a great time and we'll be back next year.

Dustin

What time of the day did ^^that^^ happen? Confused

Some people get up late, go have breakfast, then stroll into the show around noonish, STILL expecting to get votes for their ride and even a chance a first place. hussein, puhleeze! Rolling Eyes

Even if the promoters expect say 500 vehicles and 600 show up, well, what can you do? However, I too second the motion of assuring a one plaque per vehicle registered. So if you don't care to register it you should not expect to get a plaque either! Cool

Everyone has their opinion, and heres mine... I had what my wife and
I considered a cool idea, put a porsche 911-6 cylinder with a/c, heater, 5 speed, etc. into a vw. Searching my thoughts, I decided on a notchback because a type 3 is the best riding vw, and i wanted a sedan, but not a bug. After i got the logistics of the motor and tranny handled, I asked Buddy Hale to help me finish it out. His reply was, Ill help you only if i get to do it all the way up. My car won coolest type 3 at the show. I honestly can say that in 700+ cars, I had the nicest, most custom type 3. I have poured my life and soul into this project for more than 2 1/2 years working my day job and on this thing at night. If you want to call it the buddy hale show, go ahead, I feel like when you do that, im reassured that it had the right guy working on my car. in addition to thousands of man hours, dump 6 figures into it. so let me have my moment, cuz next year, im drivin it to the classic, I wont win cuz itll be all chipped up. Remember, I built a driver.

Bravo!!! A V-6 would be ...well.... Embarassed not nearly as cool as a Porsche 911 motor. Cool 'Nuff said. Oh, and I think you had the right guy working on your car. Wink We need to hang out. I have 7000 miles now on my split.

That wasn't a run of the mill 911 either, was it? Looked like a Carrera motor to me. Wink

Well here is my dad’s car that won “coolest bug”
I don’t like to toot my own horn but my dad has been ragging on me to post on this thread.
We went to the show with no expectations (at a show like the classic I don’t understand how anyone could go with expectations) we just went to have fun.
My dad has been building this car since the mid 80’s and recently finished it. All work with exception of the interior and the transmission was done by us in a two car garage. The car is a driver and was driven to the show from San Diego. We did not expect to win anything and were blown away to win “coolest Bug”

Thanks, Joe

Hopefully the next years classics will have these kind of crabs and more self built cars getting at least a dash plaque.
