I have a 1300 beetle and the engine has died. So i am going to buy a new engine, but i have a few questions.

Im going to go for a 1600, for a bit more power, so i was wondering if i will need to update other aspects of the car. Running gear, gear box, brakes etc?

Or will it be as simple as swapping out the 1300 for a 1600?

Thanks people of the samba!

Is it 6 or 12 volt? If it is 12 volt, drop a 1600 in it, its easy. If you have to convert it to 12 volt, that is a bit more complicated. I'm running a 1600 in my 66. You will just have to clearance the bell housing for a 12 volt flywheel. I'm running a 6 volt flywheel. You can find the specifics by searching the samba[/list]

Depending on miles and engine condition of your 1300 cc -- you could always simply rebuild it using 1600 cc pistons and cylinders. It will still be a single port engine - unless you go for new heads, cylinder tins and a few other tid bits.

Euro car, it's a dual port 1300 Wink

Any idea what the problem is with it?
the beauty of those 1300 dual port engines is new 1600 cylinder kits and heads bolt straight on.

The AR and AB 1300DP bottom ends are fairly robust with less hp and lower compression so outlast 1600 ones generally.

if you are just looking for a relatively stock motor, consider finding a local shop and having them rebuild it. As noted, they could upgrade it to a 1600 relatively easy. Using a local resource will probably cost the same and if you have any issues, they'll be there to help.
