Hey guys, I looked for a few hours with no real results....I am finishing the wiring on my 60 single. I had to start from scratch and never drove it until this year.

Everything has worked flawlessly and on the first try, until now. The high beam warning light works as normal when the key is off. With the key on, it stays lit, but goes out when I turn on the headlight switch. If I use the high beam switch, the warning light goes on and off as usual. When I turn the headlight switch off, the warning light comes back on. What am I missing here?

The speedo appears to be original dated 2/60 with fat needle. I took it apart to redo the colored lenses and the piece that holds the 3 warning light bulbs was found loose in a box of parts that came with the truck. It is using a modern flasher unit. I didn't notice this problem until I added the headlight 3 prong harnesses and hooked them up.

I don't expect you guys to know the exact problem, but if you have any ideas of what could cause this, I can figure it out on my own. Thanks

It sounds like maybe the high beam bulb on the speedo is getting power from the key but it's only supposed to get power when the high beams are on.

Back of speedo:

The center is the high beam, of course.
It's grounded to the speedo housing via rivets as you see there.
The bulb wire itself goes to the fuse box and is hooked to the fuse that gets power only when the high beams are on. I'm assuming you have that wired up right.

Is it possible the high beam bulb holder is touching that bottom center connection that powers the oil and generator light bulbs? Sometimes the rivet for that connection comes loose and that connection can rotate. Maybe it's turned and contacting the high beam bulb holder, giving it power.

Very possible Everett, I will check tonight. Also that ground tang riveted on the body, don't remember if that is intact.....

Well, turns out my problem is the long metal ground tab is broken off right at the two rivets. If I hold the bulb holder to the body of the speedo, everything works like it should. Thanks for the pic Everett!
