Hello everybody, my name is Alex from El Salvador, Central America. 1 year ago (almost) I bought a pearl white DC. The truck sat 2 years in a local vw workshop and before that, sat in a barn 10+ years and survived at least 2 floods.
The engine wasnt running, had a front drum seized because there was a bees nest (panal de abejas??) inside; the elecrical system was destroyed, the passenger side dogleg missing, the interior was full of soil and dry mud.

The plan is make it roadworthy, and drive it everywhere. The stages of the project are:
1.-Fix /rebuild/restore all the mechanical things
2.-Redo the entire electrical system
3.-Drive and enjoy the truck for a while
4.-Buy a tig machine, learn to use it and do a loooot of metal work
5.-Restore the original paint
6.-Drive the dc the rest of my life.

By the moment I´m in the stage 1: overhauled the engine, carb, dizzy, dropped and cleaned the transmision, cleaned the engine bay, dismantled the brake system, cleaned by hand almost everything over, under and inside the truck. Cleaned and restored the headlight switch, the ignition switch, the speedo, the door locks, and purchased a lot of parts new and used.
I have to say that The Samba is a great resource of information and knowledge, and there are a lot of skilled people here.
I will post more pics of the work done in this past 11 months soon.

this doka looks like it could use pretty much every repair panel made....

how do you keep the city from removing it sitting on jackstands in a residential area? In my neck of the woods people would have a conniption if they saw it like that.

Looks like you have made quite some progress already.

here in the US, my father-in-law had the law called on him because he had 2 cars sitting in the yard.... registered, insured, with current tags

A seized wheel. That was one of the first things I had to take care. One of the front drums had some "Chumelo" bees living inside (Tetragonisca angustula) so I used M14 hexagonal bolts to extract the drum and managed to transplant the bees in to a wooden box. Great, Im mechanic and apicultor now.

Also inside the engine thins I found a scorpion.

I was lucky because I wasnt using gloves in that moment, and the scorpion decided to hide and no to bite.

Another pet: a pearl white cat, who uses to sleep inside. i usually find hair and footprints in the seats.
