Comparing info off the TDI group it looks like a Syncro you'll need to use the Dakota Digital unit to control the pulses per mile, but I think the 2wd one doesn't need it as it won't exceed the high speed govener.

but I could be talking outta my butt cause I haven't personally tried this.

It should just be a standard input into the ECU. The TDI ECU gets that information from the cluster and the cluster gets it from a three wire VSS in the trans.

I was hoping to use what I have (2-pin) and just ground the third wire. I don't 'have' to have it to drive but would like it correct. Still have more research to do but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I'll have to look more for the 3 wire sensor, didn't see one in the classifieds.

On the do it yourself style, did you use the Allegro chip? And did the back of the speedo configuration require the resistor and diode that Tom Shiels used in the link below? I need to make one for my Subaru 2.2 conversion...

Thanks! Adam

This thread popped up.

I don't recall changing the thread title? The VSS I'm using is from a VW Mk3 AFAIK.

Also....

I'm nearly 100% certain that the stall at highway speed was due to a failing ECU power supply relay.

I haven't seen a DTC for VSS since installing this part.

Neil.
