Moderator notes:
1) This topic was split off from the original http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=537163 .
2) Most of Eric's posts in this thread have been combined into this first post.
3) December 19, 2013: Thread cleaning #1 (i.e. now that the group buy date has been announced -- see below or page 9 -- all of the "I'm in!" type of posts have been removed).
4) January 3, 2014: Group buy has ended. If you missed out, no worries; the lights will be available soon via Terrawagen's web site and at your favorite Vanagon vendors.
5) September 2017: Color poll removed.

The mold is being produced right now. We should see a prototype in a few weeks. Our logo is being molded on the inside as well as a part number. We also are having the mounting holes punched out for easier installation.
Like we mentioned in an earlier post, we need to sell the first 100 sets of fronts to finance the mold and production of the rear flares. I'm confident it will happen.
The next project: Similar but with an LED driving light similar to Audi

Getting close now... this is our prototype mold.
August 22, 2013
Here's our first part off the mold. Don't get too excited, we have a few changes to make. This mold is just a test, the actual part will fit and look much better. We're making progress!

Great news! We have the led light figured out, and we just made a huge purchase for the first run of our new driving lights. They are called "TerraPodz"
We are proud to announce that we are using "KC Hilites" as our LED vendor.
You guys are going to love the amount of light that these things put out.
I have the first prototype on the Tristar right now, only one of them, and I can see pretty good without the headlights on, and remember that's only 1 light.

Here is the DRL bucket mounted without the LED and without the lens, in our test material. The actual parts will be black. They are paintable if you want to do that.

Teaser pic!
Almost ready, check out the latest pic.
Here's the two versions, classic ( silver background ) and Blaque ( black )
Not sure if we will be producing the black version yet, unless there is demand. I prefer the classic, Josh likes the black.
More pics on the website!

Good questions,
The bucket portion is a coated PVC, lens is polycarbonate, LED light is made by KC HiLites. No texture on the bucket, it's perfectly smooth. The lens is bonded to the PVC bucket using 3M 540 polyurethane sealant.
The silver version is actually painted behind the lens, the black is not.
Wiring kit is included. We designed the lights to tie into the stock parking lights. No switch required.
Simply turn on your parking / and or the head lights and the Terrapodz will be on. You can also wire them any way you like.

The KC LED's are much brighter than you would expect, and they definitely are brighter than what the data sheet states.
They are not fog lights, I'm really not sure you want a super bright light for fog as light tends to reflect back at you in fog.
The led's are brighter than my low beam H4's and can be seen much further away.
So, to clear any confusion, what we have are LED driving lights / day time running lights. They are bright without being obnoxious, and they put down just the right amount of light. Trust us, you'll be impressed.

There my be more than 50 people here that would like to be on the group buy. Here's what I'm thinking, I'll create an ad and post it in the classifieds.
I'll post the link in the thread. When we get to 50 I'll pull the ad.
Like I mentioned earlier, all the regular Vanagon vendors will be selling these a week after the initial group buy release, so if you don't get on the group buy, its not the end of the world. We need to support these guys.
Price? still waiting for the final tally. The target was $249 retail, but with all the changes, reality is that they most likely will be $259.
As far as the color split? A poll sounds great, I think 90% is already black from the responses here. I personally prefer the silver, but Josh wanted to try doing a black set, and I think he wins this one, because of the overwhelming response. Not to say we won't do silver, but it just makes it harder in case we make too many and people prefer the other.

We are in production! I doubt we will make it in time for Santa, but we should have parts ready to ship by the first of the year.
Look for the group buy to happen on Jan 1 2014. Limited to 50 units. Free shipping on the group buy.
An ad will be posted here on the Samba, when we reach 50, the ad will be pulled. If you miss the group buy, don't worry! They will be available on our web site, and at your favorite vendors soon after.
We will only be doing black on the first run of 50, if you want silver check the web site. They will be available a few weeks later. |

They will look like these. Although "these" are original Projektzwo lights.
Love the idea of LED lighting as the originals get hot.
Hopefully the LED lights and lens will be available?? _________________ Currently:

curious about the led part, are you planing on using an Audi part for the lamps or lens ? rounded ends like original or more straight sided ?
even just the housing would be great for a DIY fog lamp install. |

Wow, just € 213.53 euros! That's $282.223 dollars not including shipping...
I don't think we're going to be even close to that! and ours will be "made in USA". _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

Looks like less than $140 based on the below.
Just guessing...

I was just thinking about one of my favorite parts of the P'zwo fog light kit -- the wiring harness and instructions (in german). Anyone interested in reproducing the wiring? I have an unused sample of one, sitting on the shelf if someone will commit to returning it to me unharmed after faithfully recreating dozens of them for the needy. |

I would be happy to take a look at the PZ harness. I am actually way closer to Dylan (insyncro) than Ryan, but nothing a little Priority Mail can't take care of in a couple days...

Eric,
Are the lights going to be Driving or Fog lamps?
I'm OK either way, just wondering.
Still in for 1 or 2 sets and will probably get a set of front and rear flares for the Syncro.
Thanks,

Not to hijack the thread or anything, because I really love, gotta have a set of flares...
Anyway, I took apart a wiring kit for the p'zwo foglights I have sitting on the shelf (busted one of the plastic lamp housings).
Here's a bunch of pics of the kits contents.
The specs on the wires are as follows:
• Brown: two 91 cm wires (end to end including connectors), blunt end to female spade.
• Green: two 82cm total, fuze block pin connector to female spade
• Blue: y-shaped thing. main wire is 221cm total length. 77cm from the fuse block pin connector, there's a vampire clip with another 145cm chunk of blue wire ending in another female spade connector.
Instructions: Here are the originals...
Here's a translation, of sorts...
The switch is ghetto. Get a stock one:
Der relay:
These pins slip right into the back of our relay/fuse box thingies:
Yup, nothing thrilling here:
This is the bag of stuff in all its glory:
Oh, a critical question is "what is the gauge of the wire?" I dunno man, about average for this kinda thing?

Any news on the ProjektZwo fogs/lamps? Clarity on:
- pricing
- availability
- wiring
- lighting style (daytime running lights, vs. fogs?)
I'd like to make a bulk purchase of the front flares plus ProjektZwo lights at the same time... _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Are you making the surrounds so that they work with the original p'zwo lights? I think that would be a good idea if its possible. _________________ 1991 Syncro |
